You can change the settings in Wind section in FastParticleGenerator for funnel_smoke in particles.dat.

I think that Sonar_PL made the "real" wind. For example: all this screenshots are from the same patrol. As you see the wind always blows in the same direction, irrespective of the ship's movement direction. There is no situation like in stock SH3 that four ships are sailing in four various directions and every smoke is blowing towards the ship's stern.

there is just one wind, "fake wind". no real one in game.

as anvart said, you can define the wind direction in the specified files. but it always will be the same, whereever you are in game. there is no real variation. but ingame you never really recognize this. so even just "switch on" the wind is a nice addition.

;)

Old_Jakub 09-06-11 04:26 PM

OK, I understand now ;). I agree with you: in the game we won't see the difference, it looks like real wind. But if we could see this fake-real wind in U-BOOT_HAHD it would be nicely. It is looks much better than in stock SH3.

Speed for 2 or 3 directions...

Guess what i bought yesterday?

Hi shipmates,

I was at bestbuy shopping for dvd and guess what i stumble upon?

A bargain CD Silent hunter 4 gold edition for 12.99!

So if some of you are wandering why he is talking about that now?

The reason is that after a really intensive reflection on what i want U-BOAT_HAHD to look like is that Sh4 seem the better choice of all.

It is not only for the water but for bump map and DDS image format also a better support is integrated for texture and more options available.

Also many controllers i crave to use are available for sh4 only.

I will need the approval of all team members before doing the switch because i am not alone in that venture anymore.

Also very important i want the experience sh4 modders that are still active to join our team so we can once and for all get that dream simulator we all dream about to become a reality.

Time to forgot Ego and self interest and to unite in one hell of a team effort to get the job done, i am dead serious and want a real team effort or else i won't start it.

What i need to know first is all the major porting problem we face at the beginning thing like Harbor, u-boat integration, GUI modifications, campaign elements etc.

I will make another thread in Sh4 ato forum so the folks there can start replying and start a dynamic conversation on doing it and even joining if they are willing to.

I am currently installing SH4 so i will begin some testing as soon as it is install.

The bad news is that if we go the SH4 way then i will not mod it for both platform too much work involve if any modders want to port the Sh4 work we will do that can be included in sh3 then they will have full permission.

This is a crucial decision and there will be no turning back after we start so think about it well before approval.

The great thing about Sh4 also is that we can add our own shaders so i can picture gorgeous metal surface and new water shader.

So i am awaiting your feedback on this new step in the U-BOAT_HAHD evolution.:Kaleun_Salute:
After the decision is taken i will ask Hitman to put the U-BOAT_HAHD thread in SH4 ato forum.

Best regards Hans

A part of me wants to cheer, and a part of me wants to feel guilty, as it's partly my fault. I believe that you guys were doing great work for SH3, but I've also been sad that GWX4 got dropped when it did. There was work being done for new harbors and such, and Diving Duck actually started the last version of the Open Hatch mods with SH4 in mind.

On the one hand it's not my place to say one way or the other, because I'm not part of the team and not much of a modder anyway, but on the other I've thought for a long time that while OM is a great mod, it doesn't supply all that SH4 really needs or is capable of. SH4 U-boats really needs the full supermod treatment, and I think it's a diamond that's never really been polished.

If you all agree to go down that route, you will find me a much more enthusiastic friend, and I will be glad to help your team any way I can. :sunny:

Hi mate,

Don't feel guilty it is my own fault i bought it!:k_rofl:

But since day one i was craving to have some nice features like normal bump on ships and DDS texture support that are ram savy and the water transparency that everyone want so bad.

Also i won't feel to guilty about not finishing it for SH3 because there is already a ton of very good mods for SH3.

For sure some might be disappoint on my new choice but when they will see it done they will understand the reason why.

I was able to do amazing stuff on SH3 so just imagine what we can achieve on SH4.

SH5 is really a no go for me maybe in 5 years when all tools are mature but for now it is not a good choice for me.

Best regards Hans

Hi mate,

Yes indeed it is a major turning point if the team approve but rest assure that all the stuff we did so far for the SH3 platform will be release as independent mods.

And i will made the move only if i can get the help i need to accomplish the task ahead.

We already have in team excellent artists but the more the merrier.

Like having someone who is skill in port and harbor integration would be a very nice addition.

Also i want the magnificent GUI that Mak did to be integrated exactly as it is right now on SH3 because i don't like the modern GUI of SH4 i want to wipe it all from the game if possible.

In a word i just want to use SH4 to emulate SH3 with the more advanced features from the game engine.

Best regards Hans

Gedis 09-07-11 02:51 AM

can we see that magnificent GUI screenshots?

back in the days when sh4 was released i didn't like the GUI, specialy crew managment screen and pacific was soo boring, switched back to sh3 + gwx.
then Uboat missions expansion was released for sh4, i was jumping in joy, but as much as i wanted uboats, GUI with crew managment didn't change, so switched back to sh3 + gwx.
and i still think crew managment screen and ability to drag sailors in slots individually is best in SH3 and GUI is not that strange as in SH4.

but if you can keep similar crew managment screen and GUI as in SH3, then go for SH4 and i think i'll switch to SH4 too :)

P.S. atlantic, it must be atlantic!

Old_Jakub 09-07-11 02:51 AM

Hans, I think that you will start the real storm on forum ;).

I played SH4 little because I don't like Pacific theatre. SH4 has a nice graphics but very "candy". It fits the tropics, hot beaches and palms, but will it work with the cold, north Atlantic? SH3 has a dirty, faded and dark graphic. Will you be able to change SH4 colors that they will match to the U-boot war? Color scheme creates the atmosphere. If you decide to change the platform, your current work will be wasted and you will have to start from the beginning?

Regards :salute:

urfisch 09-07-11 03:15 AM

@hans

i already applied for the membership, by sending reaper an email. although he hasnt answered yet, i really appreciate your decision, if we talk about modding sh4 with atlantic theater. i love sh3 as it is, but modding in sh4 gives much better results, so the time is much more better invested. and sh4 has the much better gameplay, than sh5. so it definitely is the best platform. steve is right: sh4 is the diamond, that has never been polished.

but its a lot of work, to port over all the nice mods from sh3 to sh4. so we need more human power, i guess. and maybe we also need the creators of some sh3-mods in the team. e.g. the wolfpack addition from h.sie should definitely be part of our supermod. and we need people like privateer or diving duck, who know much about hexediting.

and the creator of the monsun mod should also join the crew, as we want the atlantic theater, right?! finally one can say: its a huge amount of work, but its worth it!
