rest in peace Captian Alfod...

Almighty God,

I pray for those who knew and loved Zeb Alford, and those whom he loved in turn.
Give them strength and comfort, assuage their grief with your Holy Spirit and succor their hearts with Your love.
Lift up their eyes to Heaven, O Lord, and raise their spirits in the knowledge that this man is now in Your glory, awaiting them and looking toward the day when they shall be reunited for all eternity.
Give unto them the peace that comes with understanding, Holy Father, that Zeb has not truly died but now resides by Your right hand alongside our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, biding a short time until the Resurrection.
May Your love and blessings be upon them all and their memory of Zeb will bring many cherished joys to heart, that they may know he lives on within the lives he touched and in Your Kingdom.

Amen

I offer this prayer in the sincere hope you will indeed be comforted in your loss. It took me some days to bring myself to write this. The loss of my own dad is still too recent. My Dad was my best friend, like I'm sure Zeb was to his own children.

There is one great realization that has brought me solace and I hope it will do the same for you...
As a Christian, there really is no such thing as death. When you think of the one you have lost, it's not so much a matter of "Goodbye." as it is "See you later!".

He's just gone ahead to Home while the rest of us must stay behind a little longer because God has need of us here, to share that love given to us by people such as my dad and Zeb Alford. Give it freely and to everyone, from the highest Admiral to the lowest fisherman.

What a beautiful prayer and I really appreciate those thoughts and I could not agree with you more. Dad is there waiting for all of us with open arms and is in a much better place .

All Who Knew Capt. Zeb

I met Catp. Zeb while helping with the Cavalla restoration. When the CHF was founded, there were some bad feelings amongst some of the initial volunteers, but Zeb kept a steady hand and never turned anyone away who wanted to help. The first few months were pretty lean with little funding, but Zeb went out and almost singlehandedly raised over $150,000 during the first year. Over time, he was directly responsible for over $500,000 in funds raised and who knows how much indirectly. I always enjoyed my time spent with Zeb and he truly loved Submarines and Submariners. His passing is a loss - I salute him. Jeff Morris

Amazing Comrades

To all the men and women (a few) who have posted about our Dad- it is just an amazing tribute to the senior men who are leaving this earth and taking so much history with them. I always bugged Dad to write a book. Does anyone know if he did? I want to thank GRAF PAPER for your spiritual prayer. It meant so much to me being a strong believer in Christ.
To Admiral Von Gerlach- I loved the message to sent to Neal with your Angel artwork. They were exquisite; as have been all your supporting words to his girls. To John Wertz- Your email and story about Dad's humor and working with him reminds me so much of how he was.
My gratitude is coming to you all.

My sincere condolences to the family of Capt. Zeb. A person who was so obviously kind, courageous and honorable. I never knew you, but after reading the posts, I know a little about you.

R.I.P Captain :salute:

Best wishes to all Cap's family.

I can't say I knew him, but from reading his bio in the first post, he has lived a facinating life and championed the restoration of the USS Cavalla which otherwise might of been sent to rust away at a dry dock or turned to scrap; truly a noble cause.

My condolences to his friends and family.

This little project may be of your interest:

A tribute mod for SH4.
If any of you would like to help make it out, please post in that thread what you do best.
A video creator would be nice... :yeah:

If I have 12 good pictures (good resolution) to work on, I would like to handle that, or help with it.

I never got the chance to meet Zeb and that I am sorry for. But I have touched a piece of his life. There is park at the old Naval Station Puget Sound (aka: Sandpoint) where they have taken old submarine sails and mademade them look like the fin of a pod of orcas. The first one I ever touch was this one from the USS Tullibee.

Members on the Mod forum where asking about making a memorial mod in Zeb's honor. Tonight. I made this background which I can make into a loading scene. I thought since his family has been browsing the forum that they might want a to see it.

Eternal Father, Strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bid'st the mighty Ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
O hear us when we cry to thee,
for those in peril on the sea.
O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walked'st on the foaming deep,
and calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea!
Most Holy spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea!
O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee,
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.
O Christ, the Lord of hill and plain
O'er which our traffic runs amain,
by mountain pass or valley low,
Wherever Lord thy brethren go;
Protect them by Thy guardian hand
From every peril on the land.
O Spirit, Whom the Father send
To spread abroad the Firmament;
O wind of heaven, by Thy Might,
Save all who dare the eagle's flight;
And keep them by Thy watchful care
From every peril in the air.

Admiral Von Gerlach 08-10-09 11:34 PM

Your dad and all of you are in my daily morning prayers, girls, and i had a thought maybe in time you all could among you write down some of the stories you recall from his tales, and maybe others who knew him could help add some, and it certainly might be a way to honour and nurture your connection to him.

My grandfather was at sea for many years several generratoins ago and his career bridged the transition from steam to the modern fleet, air and nuclear, and we found he had kept an entire file cabinet of carefully written notes, stories and times he had seen, and we put some of them together in a memory book, modern software makes that very very easy to do. And he may indeed have written things that could be added too. just a thought.

God bless you all and all the familiy. :)
