I think no one has ever said it better (or with more conviction) than the immortal (or was it immoral?) Lloyd Bridges when he said

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking."

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking."

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue."

and

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines"

in the ageless "classic" "Airplane"

(Yes, if you can't tell, I love stupid movies!:rotfl: )

glad you think so DeepIron and a hell of a compliment as well. Didn't intend it to be an inspirational mod but did want to make the SHIV environment much better for everyone once outside of the sub camera's are used.

I love the clear water affect. Does this affect only work in certain areas of the map?

Man that looks good.

Here's a small update on the Foam texture.
Jaketoox is working on it and I am trying to help him as much as I can.
At this moment we both have a little different opinion on which texture looks nicer.
So my question is what you guys think about it.

Pictures 1/3/5/7 are version 8FF
Pictures 2/4/6/8 are version 12

Id vote for the second set, or what u call 12. Hard to tell diff because thier both so good, but in the end the second set looks like its size goes better with the sub. Also to my eyes the second set looks more detailed ie a higher crisper res for the foam texture, or should i say a sharper look to it. But hey id play with either of them, the one i have running now is jaketooxs sorry if i spelled wrong. Foam test 4, and loving it.

Jonesy:rock:

Ps must be nice playing at such a high res, those picts r quite soothing to the eyes. Cant wait to get my new laptop.

I like the scale more in ver12 from the external view yet ver 8FF looks to scale from the bridge. Shot 9 is perfect. The gloss - reflection - sheen without seeing it in motion is hard to determine if its good or not.

I see the foam is really becoming a focal point. IMHO the smaller foam rendering is better. But, lets take a look at the sky. Weather front approaching, sir!

In all reality, the sky is a real piece of work. Those racing white foam looking things they called clouds are gone. In a word, amazing!
Clear night time sky is fantastic. I was looking up hoping to catch a shooting star it is that good. I was able to catch a storm at night and talk about immersion, dark and plenty of thunder rumbling around the sub. Kind of gave me the willies:oops: . I ran into the control room where the light is on. :o I did not catch any lighting but I do not think Leo had it in this test version.

One thing, my FPS were excellent with my tightwad computer. I had all mods going.

I will let the screenshots speak for themselves:up:

Okay listen guys I feel bad and need to say this!

I am the numbers worker for this mod and helping on all the put together stuff and sugestions and getting things out to be tested by the Testers and tweeking the things that need it to get the best look vs FPS rate.

Kriller2 JakeToox l3th4l These are the guys busting their asses to make this dream I had of making this mod into a reality! They are doing work I do not know how to do and havn't learned yet and if it wasn't for them this would not be turning into the mod it is becomming!

Originaly like LBO it was going to be simple numbers crunching and physics introduction to the reflections and lighting effect's of the game. But thanks to
Kriller2 JakeToox and l3th4l it is turning into a lot more than the first dream to the production of this mod!

They are great guys and deserve a lot of credit and I owe them a lot!

Also all the testers I have chosen have been straight forward and honest with me about every thing they get and have been a great help in getting things right and they are an intricate part of this as well! There are a lot of people out there that say yes this looks awsome I love it and keep it up when it comes to testing things. But to find a group of guys that actualy tell you the truth and have real input into the test work and being totaly honest is a great thing to have and counts for a lot. So guys thanks to you as well!!!!!

Please all of you take notice of this as this is no longer just my mod it is a comunity job from some great people all the way around!

Unfortunatly I was sick today and wasn't able to do any testing and work and I hope tomarrow will be a better day!

PS: Can all Testers get back to me in a PM that DO NOT HAVE the Enhanced SHIP SUB and MISC reflections re worked

Flybywire 09-13-07 09:00 PM

I like the second set...called set 12. Having spent much time on the ocean sailing and flying over it for a living...IMHO the second looks fantastic.

DirtyHarry3033 09-13-07 09:04 PM

Leo don't know why you should feel bad at all! Everyone here who checks this thread every day (like me) knows that the mod is a group effort. Doesn't matter if you're not the "brightest" or the "most capable" at doing "this", "that" or "the other".

But it was you that had the dream and got the ball rolling! And put in ungodly hours working on it and getting up the team to bring it to life! Without your dream this mod would not be, ya know? You deserve credit for that, don't feel bad about taking it!!!!

I salute you, Kriller2, Jaketoox and l3th4l for this work of art you're making  Judging by the screens I've seen, don't think I've ever seen a mod that so totally changed the look of a game - it is just unbelievable!

Hope you get over your illness soon, and hope it wasn't brought on by overwork doing mods for us :hmm:

DH

clayman 09-13-07 09:32 PM

Exactly DirtyHarry.

Yes .... LV it was your dream ... this is a very ethereal thing we are dealing with ... solely visual ... to what ends ... to carry a simulation we all love even further. An artist can be tremendously talented, but without the eye or the vision he is as good as lost. It's all a group effort but you had the vision. Thanks again ... feel better ... I am always amazed your doing this and so much more with the tools you have (for lack of a better way of saying this)

I too vote for the second set. The smaller the size the more realistic the effect seems. (hope that doesn't effect the view at distance - checkerboard wise). Also a slight toning down of the glare makes it seem more life-like. I like 12 very much.

Gentlemen, I may have joked my way through this tread, but I have to say I, like all, probably anticipate this mod more than any other. And looking at all those others that share this view here and in other forums ... that's testament in itself.
.

Weather-guesser 09-13-07 10:03 PM

8 vs. 12

Get well soon Leo. I salute all working on this great MOD.

ONE BIG THANKS!

I must also vote for the even pics. 12's are Outstanding!

foam foam

just giving opinion , i don't know if it shared.

i feel that the foam is a bit too much present in the set of pics

the rendering of picture 4 and 5 and really great with the typical specular white spots. very impressive. my preferred ones.

Maybe the density of white parts in the foam texture could be reduced, on 7 and 8.

reflections are really good. Thanks all for your time spent on this. lurking at it every day ^^.

That's not necessary. The shot 7 and 8 are pictures of the highest wave state (heavy storm condition).
When you take a lower wave state, it will be scattered more.

The General 09-14-07 02:43 AM

Shot 7 & 8 are of the highest wave state?!! The sun is shining and the waves don't look very big at all, are you sure that's storm conditions? One of my biggest gripes with SH3 & 4 has been that the waves have never looked big enough in storm conditions. I believe the GWX team achieved the best result seen so far. It may even be necessary to take some artistic license with scales, in order to achieve the desired effect. I accept that there may ba a limit due to ship physics (unwanted sinkings etc.). Maybe this could be resolved by making all the models in the game 10% percent smaller, thus making the waves look bigger? Don't lynch me, it was just an idea :o .

Stella work on the textures and reflections though Gents, they look freakin' photo-realistic!

Yes they are the highest, Shots 7 and 8 were taking from a higher altitude.
I made my own mission with highest wavestate lots of wind but no rain or fog and a medium clouds (that's why there still is sun).

If you look from the conning tower, the waves sometimes are as high as the conning tower itself.

Hey nice picts Avgwarhawk. I wholeheardely agree the skyies in my opinion r the best in the business aswell as the water.
Beautiful shot.

Has the view distance been extended there. If so has it been fixed so the fog, sky and sea all transition
correctly, so that ships and objects transition smoothly out of the fog, and you don't get the cut off world effect when at higher free cam altitudes?

Now regarding the sea foam I'd say the "12" looks better, but is it at all possible to reduce the scale even further? It still looks a tad oversized.

Oh, and really nice work on the oil slicks there lethal.
I'm sure the bomb, torpedo, shell, and ship sinking foam be getting the same treatment as well, correct?

The General 09-14-07 03:36 AM

Thanks Foo,

Do you have any screenshots from an angle that would better emphasize the scale of the waves in their largest state?
