As a young "Man of Culture" growing up in early '60s Australia "The Samurai" tv series with Shintaro and Tombei and hordes of ninjas was HUGE. Us kids couldn't get enough of the melodramatic acting, the dramatic posturing/posing, the "alien" ( to us ) music, the stunning scenery - landscape and buildings, exotic costumes, weird haircuts, etc etc. It was a great introduction to the exotic world on our "doorstep".

Years later with surfing the net I'm finding a heap of amazing stuff from Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia. Music/Dance videos from amazingly talented, very attractive too, guitarists, drummers, keyboard musicians, singers, also a lot of funny stuff....English lessons for Japanese hookers, is a hoot :har::har:

Anyway, the below, is a terrific tv series virtually unknown in the West.

The Split

The Defoes, a family of female divorce lawyers known for dominating their field in the ruthless and fast-paced world of London's divorce law circuit. At each step, viewers are met with an authentic and compelling look at how four very different women attempt to hold their ground in all areas of their lives -- from their own relationships to their careers.

The Split is a British TV 6-episode 3 season legal drama series which follows the lives of the Defoe family who work in divorce law, aside from the youngest sister who works as a nanny. It's a well made series with decent acting by the cast and even though I don't usually watch these type of series it's piqued my interest. The series is heavily focussed on relationships, it never goes overboard with the melodrama but it came close at times. There is a sexual predator in this series, there's always one in every office isn't there, I think they put him in to spice things up a bit, midlife crises and all that, is he going to get her panties off or isn't he type of thing, me thinks she needs some excitement somewhere because she's lacking something in her life.

TV Rating after 1st Season, 6\10.

That's bottom end of good so it's off to a decent start.

Fear City: New York vs The Mafia

New York City in the 1970s was ruled with a bloody fist by five mafia families, until a group of federal agents tried the unthinkable: taking them down.

A fascinating behind the scenes look into how the FBI implicated the Mafia top bosses for murder and many other crimes.

Bank Under Siege

Barcelona, 23 May 1981; eleven hooded men broke into the headquarters of the Central Bank of Barcelona; what began as a spectacular robbery quickly became a real challenge to Spain's new democracy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwK_11zpSuA

They tried to make it interesting but they failed, a weak script that had 3 hours and 34 minutes of yackity yak and a few gunshots to stop you falling asleep, it was boring and excessively long. The location of the bank isn't even in Barcelona and the acting is sub par at best, María Pedraza as a young reporter isn't a good actress so she was probably casted for her looks and even they were just above average. As for the real history of the events of that time, either someone doesn't know their Spanish history or they were trying to rewrite this series to suit their own narrative, don't use this rubbish in your Spanish history A Levels or you'll fail them.

Mini Series Rating 4.5\10

There was a huge government cover up of those times so it's wise to take this series with a pinch bucket of salt.

A fabulous tv series from the early '80s. Only one season :wah::wah:
Set in the South Pacific in the late 1930's. VERY OTT but great fun :)
Memorable characters.....the "down on his luck" ex Flying Tiger pilot now doing charter cargo work, his alcoholic mechanic, Princess Koji with her entourage of samurai and geishas......and glamorous outfits ( when she's not in her hot tub :D ), the lecherous missionary who's also an Abwehr spy, the American nightclub singer who's with US Naval intelligence, Jack the eyepatch wearing dog "one bark for no, two barks for yes" :), and Bon Chance Louie the French government representative ( one man government ).

Quality tv, great entertainment. :arrgh!:

"Tales of the Gold Monkey".

Shōgun

In Japan in the year 1600, at the dawn of a century-defining civil war, Lord Yoshii Toranaga is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.

Not My Review.

Japan’s 17th-century historical drama “Shōgun” is by far a Hollywood masterpiece. The meticulous details in the set design, wardrobe, and character development take you back to a time of protocol, duty, love, and power when one lapse in judgment can mean death.
The tale opens in 1600 with an English sailor, John Blackthorne –a perfectly cast (Jarvis), marooned in Japan with his ship crew. Blackthorne and his ship end up in the enemy’s possession of the politically savvy Lord Toranaga (Sanada). He sees the Englishman as a chess piece to be used against his rivals, the council of lords ruling the country. This encounter marks the beginning of a significant cultural exchange between the English and the Japanese, a theme that runs throughout the series and will be of particular interest to those fascinated by Japanese culture.
Blackthorne, thrown into a strange land and culture, quickly learns he must adapt to avoid death. Through his eyes, we learn the culture of 1600s Japan, along with the samurai warrior class and the overall fatalism regarding death. A willing participant, he learns their ways and becomes a high-ranking samurai, thus entwining his fate with Lord Toranaga.
The series is predominantly in Japanese with subtitles and, of course, English, so you will need to pay attention. I found myself rewatching some of the scenes, as the violent action scenes tell the visual story between the characters. The visual mastery and choreography of the action scenes are some of the best I’ve seen, with their resolute portrayal of even the minor violent scenes. These engaging action scenes will keep you on the edge of your seat, eager to experience the series in its entirety.

Series Rating 8\10

They don't get much better than this.

Got a few question related to this TV Series thread

I think it was a comedy. The series follows a group of young people in an university for wizards and witches.

This one was a comedy. Here you followed a family who was shaped as dinosaur.

The last one was a drama-Here you followed young people who was going in school to become lawyer.
