Good to see you back! I left a comment on your video about how to use the Deck Gun again. Also you kept losing your hydrophone contacts because you were facing your contact. The default hydrophones were side mounted on the hull, which is why you're able to detect ships while surfaced, but this also meant that directly in front or directly behind you'll have difficulty hearing a contact.
One thing I'd like to see would be playing more realistically perhaps. It's a bit of a challenge at times but far more rewarding. What I mean is that instead of just dragging a waypoint towards a contact and mashing Time Compression till you run into it (something that all current let's plays for SH5 seem to do! heh) instead take the time to try to plot out your target's course and speed and set an intercept for it knowing ahead of time where your target will be and waiting for them instead of constantly chasing after them. There's lots of resources here to help figure out how to do that and even with map contacts on it can be a fun experience. It's just a little disappointing how none of the SH5 Let's Plays I've seen have never touched a map tool - except by accident - and never used the TDC. :) All that said I've really enjoyed your Let's Play and am looking forward to more. |
Again, great information.
I've done some map work in the past LP [I think, it's been a while] but admittedly, I'm not the best at it and it's not exactly at the top of the list of things on my mind when I'm playing SH5 [#1 is "Make sure not to leave the top hatch open when submerging the submarine.] :D |
There's a kid in England who just started a LP recently and his first dive he went down the ladder and looked up then closed the hatch behind him. He was so worried that the guys still on top wouldn't be able to get down, but had no idea how to check that! :) He was so relieved when he bumped into the watch officer later below decks. heh

I noticed in your last video the game doesnt drop to 1TC when smoke is spotted on the horizon or a ship or plane is sighted .
If you uninstall Multiple UIs for SH5 and then go into the options file which is found at NewUIs_TDC_X_X_X_ByTheDarkWraith\data\Scripts\Menu \TheDarkWraithUserOptions before uninstalling Go into the mod enabler and click on Tasks . Click on save mod profile . Now you can uninstall all mods and put them back in the correct order by clicking on Tasks and Load mod profile . Look for the heading ######### Message Box (SH3/4/5 modes) ######### Look for the line #[OPTION] #CATEGORY=Message box #TYPE=0 #DESCRIPTION=Set time compression level to 1 on any message box text #VALUES= #DEFAULT=False #; do we go to TC1 on any messagebox text? #; change below to either True or False TC1OnAnyMessageBoxText=False Change this to True TC1OnAnyMessageBoxText=True Now your game will drop to 1TC when smoke is spotted on the horizon . You can apply this anytime either in port or on patrol . There is a button (just to the right of the clock)on the top right hud which you can turn off or on anytime while playing so the game does or doesnt drop down to 1TC when messages appear in the message box . |
Will that affect my current LP? Do I have to return to home port before doing this?
Edit: Nevermind, read the bottom of your post again. Thanks for the info! |
Episode 2 now up for viewing! I've managed to fix the flickering of the map but even without morphological filtering, the smallest of the text isn't as clear as I would like it to be, but you can still read it. :)

Good LP VWFKamikaze:salute:
note: when you read a bearing from anywhere on your boat (uzo, deckcrew, scope and hydro), these bearings are from your bow. So straight ahead is always zero. When you look at bearings on your map or compass (rudder), the zero bearing is north. http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/1728/four9.jpg So if a ship is bearing 10deg through your uzo, you need to add your boat heading (say 90deg) to the 10 deg. Your heading to set in your compass would be 100deg:up: |

Hot damn, 40 minutes of awesome! :)

One thing though - when the watch crew call out smoke on the horizon, are they using the map bearing or the boat bearing? |
All contacts are boat bearing.
As for the "add true bearing to uzo bearing", skip all of that and just do "Heading to View" command. :) |

You have found a nice little killing area:yep: When you leave a wounded ship - you can go up to 30km away before you will no longer get the kill. |
Episode 4 is up and running for your viewing pleasure!
