Not family day. Different work divisions on an aircraft carrier wear different colored shirts. Notice how the colors are all repeated several times. Normally only the aircraft divisions are on deck, but sometimes off-duty personnel will be allowed on deck to stretch their legs, get some sun and take pictures.

Not a rogue wave. More likely just weather that was mild for the carrier but heavy for a frigate or destroyer. I say more than one cruise where we spent an entire day plowing through waves like that.

I understand the color schemes, but there are quite a few peeps there in shorts, t-shirts, and sneakers. This is not a typical deck crew, nor contractors. And if it is random rogue wave, why are the onlookers ready for it? I've reverse google searched this, and all I find is copies of this with no explanations.

No context. Just thought it was funny.

Sailor Steve 03-16-16 12:04 AM

As I said, it's not a random wave. Ships with fairly low freeboards do this in any kind of rough weather. It's called "going green", and it happens all the time.
