This MOD is amazing. A real work of art and worth every hour you guys spent creating it.

By the way oh great ocean subsim moderators in the sky, does this thread hold the record for the most pages (93 to date) in a subsim.com thread ever? (Which is certainly the greatest compliment possible to those whose hard work produced this MOD)

Hiya Lionman,
Welcome Aboard :)

Well 93 pages, With the advent of patch 1.4 i envisage quite a few more pages yet

And yes the guys working on this have created a beauty for sure

I can honestly say this forum in it's entiraty (spl?) and a game forum i frequented several yrs ago for Aces-High (wwii plane/tank sim online) are the only real decent friendly no flaming/bag-stabbing forums i've ever used and long may this continue

I think when you have gifted people willing to give up what might be their sim-time to create mods to aid others of a less fortunate artistic bent to make a sim/game more realistic and enjoyable and then to help new players it's a place you will always enjoy visiting and as a whole can only grow :) and also draws a more mature crowd imho

A friend in germany passed on this forum addy when i mentioned i have sh3 and had just got sh4

Without this place i would be lost for sure lol

Well Have Fun with your ship, May you sink many a target and not become a target yourself ! :)

Ciao

Def

Do not use ROW scene.dat with the new patch

Until this patch that value was multiplied by 8 to get a horizon at 8km (1000*8=8000m). Some mods have changed the value to 2000 to get a 16km horizon (2000*8=16000m). I think the devs now change the multiplier to 20 (1000*20=20000m). If now a mod with its own modified scene.dat is installed, it may work but it could raise the horizon to a false value (2000*20=40000m) with unexpected sideeffects. The same might count on other values in the scene.dat:|\\

Until LeoVampire has looked into the above issue, I recommend everybody to delete the "scene.dat" from the "ROW Sky and Ocean controls/data" before enabling it in JSGME.

If you allready have applied the "ROW Sky and Ocean controls", disable it in JSGME and do the above and enable the mod again.

Allso I wont recomend using the new sub and ship reflections, because it contains the dat file of the ships.

This is how I setup my ROW installation to be sure it works with the new patch:

I think this makes ROW half the way useless, because most of Leo's work on the ocean waves, reflection, sun/moon position etc.pp. are edits of values in the scene.dat:hmm:

I prefer to wait until Leo did a content comparison of 1.3 scene.dat and 1.4 scene.dat and can definitely say that the edited values have no significant impact on code changes by the devs in the game engine

After thinking it over, I'll just play Pro Evolution Soccer until it's all sorted out.:D

Im back to the onboard video because I changed my comp and the new vidcard is coming next week or so, so I canīt play shiv at the moment.
Does anyone know if the "jelly effect" in the water is gone with the 1.4 patch?

ROW scene.dat

Most, if not all of Leo's ocean work, is in the new patch so the ocean controls scene.dat should no longer be needed. All the texture stuff is fine, but as kriller2 stated there may be some ship dat files in the ROW mods that may need updating to match the patch. NSM will no doubt need updating to reflect the changes made in the patch as well.
I am running NSM with all of ROW, minus the scene.dat from the ocean controls and have had no noticable adverse affects yet other than low sitting troop carriers. There have been changes to the zones.cfg so using NSM will negate any improvements or additions in the patched file.

I've edited the scene.dat ive been using im TM to a horizon value of 1,000 (formerly 1500), and havent noticed any adverse effects as of yet.

I think its really a question of, "has the devs changed any other mulipliers other then the horizon rendering distance?"

Im keeping my eye on it, and i'll let you know if i find anything. Although i will probably follow your advise and pull it from TM.

Okay, but please note that using the row textures without LeoVampires scene.dat can cause some side effects on the ocean, Leo did some tweaking to make the waves look better but allso he removed a bug regarding strange colours in the reflections.

I hope Leo is back soon? :sunny: , because my skills are with graphics and not tweaking of the scene.dat, that's Leos teritory ;)

>>please note that using the row textures without LeoVampires scene.dat can cause some side effects on the ocean

Does this include Sky, ocean, foam and cloud textures?

no it's only the reflections on the water, sometime when it's sunny and blue sky, some cyan colours can be seen on the surface all the other stuff works fine with patch 1.4 including fire and smoke effects.

In that case the devs must hardcoded all these stuff because the patch 1.4 includes no new scene.dat

kriller2 11-29-07 03:42 AM

yes i noticed that allso, the modified date of scene.dat is the same and the size of the file... :hmm:

FooFighters 11-29-07 03:59 AM

I also edit the scene.file back to horizon=1000
Further I use TM interface 1.4 mod, RSRDC 1.4 stock + ROW.

It looks and works great for now.. as soon as Leo releases a newer version I'll upgrade.
But for now it works great..

Foo

p.s. I do not use the ship reflection mod, only the sub reflection.
I would not use ROW without the scene.dat.. but thats my opinion
