I'd love to see speed of sound integrated into games. There's nothing cooler than seeing the flash of an explosion, followed by the bang seconds later. Not sure if you couls make this work dynamically in game. I also think sounds of gunfire should carry further. Just being picky really, but for a future game, I want it!

A lot fo games have speed of sound modeled in-game. Steel Beasts Pro PE, WWII Online, etc.. etc..

I love that effect as well.

wow i never thought of this, what a great idea.

Yeah, it's really nice to hear in-game. Very immersive as well.

From the devs. I've spoken to for other games, the effect isn't that difficult to integrate either. In fact, I think even Steel Beasts 1 had it, and that game came out close to 7+ years ago, IIRC.

I thought SH3 had this effect (thought I remembered hearing it when shelling some shipping from outside view from the targets perspective).

No SH3 doesn't have it, there was a small mod though that had a few seconds delay before the explosion sounds to simulate it.

But if it's not that hard to do, then i hope they've already done it.

The key I see is in Boris' word dynamic. The mod for SHIII added a second or two delay, which I didn't like because I always shoot from very close. A truly dynamic delay, having it start with none and get longer with growing distance, would be very cool indeed.

Yes it is. Pages 240-241. Nice book, but very heavy on the technical side of US Subs.

Good thats just what i need, and thanks:D

dean_acheson 02-13-07 11:57 AM

this really isn't the forum for it, but the friedman book is really good, also, it is worth picking up the osprey book....

Thats the case, its no good having a 2 second delay when your right next to the gun

a delay and a huge bang would really add to the game.... Also having the screen shake if you freeview near a gun like that yamato when it fires would be awsome and really add to that feel of power from its 18 inch guns :p

They are in-game, presumably showing the "Old Movie mode" you can set the game's graphics to.

It is dynamic in those other games I mentioned. :)

Is there a way to group all these screenshots together so we dont have to hunt through all the pages trying to find them? :hmm:

Animal life! Gotta love the graphics quality, that's surely DirectX 10:up:?!

jafergon 02-18-07 03:13 PM

I'm not sure if these screenshots are new: http://www.24flotilla.com/html/modul...wtopic&t=19511

Sailor Steve 02-18-07 03:16 PM

I haven't seen any of those before. Love the 'S'-boat shots, and the water running out of the ballast scuttles on all of them.  :sunny:

Tigrone 02-18-07 03:21 PM

Those are new!

Wow, the first good screens of an S-boat! Some of them look like they may be early developement images, fine detail seems missing. Where did they come from?

Jimbuna 02-18-07 03:22 PM

Yep...really great shots there

flintlock 02-18-07 03:23 PM

Thanks for that link, jafergon!

Just when I think SH4 can't look any better, I see these. I have to admit, it's been a while since I've been this excited for an upcoming PC title (there are a few others, but there's just something about subs...).

I didn't realise that it was water running out of the ballast scuttles, to me it looked like smoke. But apart from that all the pics rock!!
