Ding! Ding! Ding! Winner!
The key component of Fast Attack was what we called the Target Engine. At the start of a scenario, all the "players" got loaded into the TE. This included own ship, good guys, bad guys, mines, airplanes, etc. Whatever could be detected or run into. When a torpedo was launched, it too got loaded into the TE. The TE's function was to report to whomever wanted the information "who detected whom". If mines were proximity mines, they would report when they detected another object in the TE. External logic would then decide what to do with that information. The TE was the heart of the whole game. -- Jim Frantz

Subsim Trivia Question 20: What are the ingredients to a U-boat cocktail?

Sailor Steve 01-30-13 10:53 AM

Lemon juice and condensed milk!

mookiemookie 01-30-13 10:54 AM

Dangit, Steve.

I'm gonna go contrarian in case you're wrong and say lime juice and condensed milk.

Herr-Berbunch 01-30-13 10:57 AM

Surely the order would be the other way around - condensed milk and lemon juice. :O:

Herr-Berbunch 01-30-13 10:58 AM

Or, a glass of beer and a shot of vodka.

Trevally. 01-30-13 11:04 AM

glass of beer with a shot of korn

Correct! Well, as far as we can tell.

The milk that is being poured in the video certainly looks like evaporated milk, rather than the condensed milk I am familiar with.
But our Subsim research intern says that the can matches this:
http://www.vmv.it/fotomusei/0003059_m.jpg
and that says condensed milk. I guess it is unsweetened condensed milk...?

No idea why a U-boat would have condensed milk aboard, maybe for making cakes?
I can see why they would have evaporated milk, just add 50% water and you have milk (but not very tasty milk).

Good call, Steve! :Kaleun_Wink:

Next Subsim Trivia question will surface within 12 hours or less. Usually less.

.

gap 01-30-13 11:46 AM

2/3 lemon juice and 1/3 milk :hmmm:

Don't forget to ask your shipmates if they are jealous while you drink it. :k_rofl:

Water is best left for the batteries and not powdered milk. :) Condensed milk would be better for cakes.

Kpt. Lehmann 01-30-13 12:52 PM

Condensed lemons and cow juice! :D

fitzcarraldo 01-30-13 01:26 PM

And in the US Fleet Boats? What was the cocktail? (Really I donīt know the answer; the ice cream was a hit, but...).

Regards.

Why would there be one? That was either made up for the book, or more likely just like in the movie one guy did that and gave it that name. The PT-boat guys made "bug juice", or "torpedo juice" made from torpedo alcohol as described earlier, but there may not have been and "official" coctail for either US subs or u-boats. It's all just sailors doing their thing.

Exactly - just like the aft torpedo room jokes........ far, far away from the control room.
Could probably make some fruit cocktail ferment but where could you hide it?

Happy Hunting!
