I thought there were a few aces in there, but I wasn't sure and I thought you said there were only veterens...

There were originally, but when I changed the planes for the second go I stuck a couple of aces in. I believe Hunter said he wanted a challenge. :hmmm:

Still, despite not claiming any kills I'm quite proud of myself, I pulled off several moves in a Spitfire that until recently would have resulted in a swift stall into the ground. Ok, my landings still suck a fair bit, but in this case I shall pull the "I couldn't see the runway through the engine smoke" card and play it. :yeah:

Ah yes, and Zi, here's the joystick link I was talking about, it explains a bit about IL2s joystick sensitivity assignments and how they work, and gives some examples to try:

http://mission4today.com/index.php?n...p=show&kid=261

I use the same setting as the author and it works well for my stick, it might not for yours but it's somewhere to start. Give it a read over and give it a go.

You might need to register to view it, but it's worth it, Mission4today has a wealth of skins and missions that you can try out. I'm currently flying "Sudden Strike" a fiction IJN invasion of Hawaii, based a fair bit on (I'd wager) Harry Turtledoves "Days of Infamy". A good campaign is 'Castaways' which is followed by 'Bush Pigs' (I think it's Bush Pigs). I must get back to playing them.

On Wednesday I'll put up a random dogfight server, Zi can practice take-offs and landings and the rest of us can practice...erm...well being idiots, not that we need much in the way of practice for that, admittedly.
I can practice this newfangled doctrine called "Not stalling everything I fly"... :hmmm:

Oh, and pop down to the docks and say goodbye to Ark Royal for me will you Zi...real shame to see her go. :wah:

Schroeder 12-07-10 08:11 AM

@Zi
BTW the HSFX mod has added a ton of moded aircraft into the game.Try to stay clear of them for now as most of them don't have a decent flight model (can't be stalled etc.). If you use one of those for practising you will be in for a big surprise once you fly a plane with a proper FM.
There is an aircraftguide.PDF in the root directory of your IL2 installation. It lists all the planes that are in the game originally. All of those have a proper FM.

Furthermore, I agree on Schroeder when he says the IL2 is probably the best aircraft to begin on. It is very stable, and durable...heck, almost indestructible. :yep:

Thanks for the joystick info, i'll implement it later on today.

I've been practising with the Bf-109G-6. I'm perfecting my landings, need to lay off on the brakes a little, making it flip upside down just before I stop is becoming a habit. My usual stick is the Horten 229 (Gotha Go 229 as it is called ingame) love that aircraft. Although I have played the game on and off for about 3 years, the new patches and mods it's going to take a little while to get back into the swing of things.

Already done that dude. Although I could go again, as it was to foggy to take photos when I first went.

Oberon 12-08-10 01:31 PM

H'okay.

I have a map set up, it has an area for take-off and landing practice, an area for ground and sea target practice, and an area for dogfighting. So we should all be set, it's on the Crete map. So you watch...the bastard won't load for one of us. :O:

But can be done...just...

HunterICX 12-09-10 04:34 AM

must say it was quite hilarious to see bits and pieces fall of that TB-3 :haha:

Oberon 12-09-10 06:28 AM

The damn thing really is pretty much indestructible.

Good turning fight btw Hunter, I really should have broken away when I saw you on a 90 degree angle on my left side, but I thought I still had enough turn to make you miss any shot you tried to take, right up until you took my wing off. :haha:

Landing that B-29 was interesting, can't believe I actually managed to get it down relatively intact.

Well, I have to admit...you kept that spitfire in check...not long ago I would just have waited for you to stall that bucket...but you made me pull everything out of the aircraft I barely know to keep myself from your sights and to keep you in my sights  Good job.

Thanks :DL I think that a large part of it is that I have my joystick calibrated right now, so the planes are nowhere near as twitchy (with the exception of the F-86) as they once were, so I can actually take the Spit up to the stall level and ride the shakes without dipping over into the actual stall.
So, I can actually practice my flying properly now. :yeah:

Oberon 12-13-10 02:40 PM

Looks like I won't be about until 2200Z tonight. Give or take 15-20 mins.

BTW, Raptor, did you shoot yourself with your weather control machine?
