Few thing i posted about already and agree with others about the crew , my watch call smoke on the horizon xxx I can't see any so I dive to PS depth and listen in on the sonar .. nothing !

As for the sonar man , why the hell could they not put a simple question in his box , all I want to do is click on him and for a box to appear and for me to ask the Q? Any Contacts .. how hard is that , new patch and still can't ask him that Q? Yes I have the KB mod and use it but still ..

One thing I did notice , on my 2nd patrol to the east coast of England , I happened apon a 10 ship convoy - no escorts - :) not only that there were about 4 of those Queen Mary type ships ... Used all my torps on these and my DG on the rest 8 went down 2 stayed up - I had to get away as DD were arriving on the scene.

But with the torps I had to adjust my earphone and turn up the sound, I did hear SCREAMS coming from the burning ships .. Not only that but with the DG , hit the hull and there where explosions coming up through the deck and out of port hole, seen several flames shoot out like you would from a flame thrower - seconds after the 1st one another one would come out the some port hole. nice touch ..

Apart from Poland at the start where I sunk the 4 ships , I've had 2 patrols, 1 out of Kiel the other from Wilhemhaven. 1st one sunk 3 ships the 2nd 8 of 10 though all 10 hit and 2 dead in the water they would not go down.

So not a lot to check out all with 1.02

I still don't like this Target Score to complete mission , they should have left it alone. You get your orders to patrol Grid xyz and sink whatever you see and see

I dont know what you were expecting , the list was never going to turn this game into a gem, it has improved it though.
Make sure you start a new campaign if you havent already as saved games contain data that has been updated and make sure you remove all mods properly before updating.
I am only speaking for myself but i have now played 1.2 for 5 hours without issue.
Now they just need to address the AI.

I expect a good subsim, SH5 is not!;)

After giving ubi money for sh3, then giving them money for sh4.... im sooooo glad i refused to give them money for sh5.... i wish more of you had seen the writing on the wall and not gave in to high hopes of a halfway playable sim when in fact you recieved a pile of poop....

I feel for you all and hope the modders can continue improving, hell basically finishing the game... Maybe in a few more months when sh5 is in the bargain trash bins of stores i'll buy it and install the mod's to make it work.... but till then I laugh in ubis face for thinking all of us would just up and buy it no matter what.... cause alot of us chose NOT TO......

Yes , its well know that the best way to get a quality game from a developer is not to buy the last version.
I bet Ubi are talking about you right now and are soooo sad you didnt buy it.

Although I haven't played but an hour or so with the new patch (1.2) I would say that I consider it to be "playable" now. Also, it doesn't seem to have too big of an issue with most of the mods (modders -what a ghastly place it would be without you) I use for SH5. Just having the morale fix alone was great. No more sullen and cranky crew every time I come aboard.

I do hope that they don't throw in the towel quite yet. The crazy spawning ships bug is apparently still there - rather close call yesterday with a beserk spawned freighter in harbor. And of course the AI needs a bit of tweaking too. They could be a dove and remove the leg-irons of the DRM but I suppose that's not in their marching orders just yet.

Have they done some tuning to the graphics? I'm running with a GTX 480 and the latest drivers and just noticed the light rays cascading off the tower and railings. Sun looks much improved too. Very nice. I mean the eye-candy is amazing. Now if they could just straighten out some more of the gameplay elements too.

oscar19681 05-12-10 08:53 AM

I had the dissapearing piers in harbour bug again. What a failure.

doomlordis 05-12-10 08:56 AM

The light rays are much better in 1.2.

SabreHawk 05-12-10 08:58 AM

Ok I got to run it last night for a short time and here's my findings so far, but of course have not yet tested everyting out cause I have not any battle to conduct at the point im at on this patrol.

Clock in the tower, control room working and have both hands. The sound room clock works but is missing the minute hand. The clock in the radio room I cant tell yet as it is at night and too many reflections off it's face to see well enough, but it appears to only have the minute hand but that hand appears to be working.
Back up to the tower, the compass on the starboard wall still does not work. The RPM gauges still do not work, but strangely the starboard RPM gauge is acting as a rudder gauge along with the actual rudder gauge that is between them.......wierd.

The TAI no longer compresses the distance info on plotted lines like it did before when in the small size map, so thats fixed and was a big beef of mine.
Shadows look the same, and still show through the tower when looking at it from outside down on the deck. So shadows didnt get any work on them as I see it cause they still have rough edges.
Now the F5 and F6 keys do man, and unman the guns but instead of the WO calling this out, the chief yells out "surface the boat" instead, and the surface icon pops up in the HUD over on the right and wont go away.
However, if either gun is manned by dialog with the WO, this works right without the "surface the boat" callout from the chief. So somehow the surface the boat command is tied to F5 & F6 keys.
Also no morale level was needed to have either action work, so the morale bug has obviously been fixed. However Im going to have a look in the commands cfg to see what this tie is with the surface the boat thing.

Crew animations all look the same, except that they dont do that silly looking turning sideways then facing then sideways thing but rather they animate properly when responding to you.
But that stupid watch crew on the bridge still act the same as before, which bugs me to no end and I did expect that to be changed cause it's totally lame. I keep wanting to slap them and tell'em to stop pointing at nothing. Still no binoculars. As far as foul weather attire I dont know yet, as I'll have to get the weather for that and I dont at the momment.
But their attire is as before right now.

Depth under keel button works fine, as does the return to course.
The compass in the hud works fine, buat as someone else said it'd be preferable to have it be a dial rather than a ribbon style. Look ike it belongs on the dashboard of your car. But at least there is one.

As for crew dialog commands, they are still as before patch so nothing added there, and the navigator still has no commands period. He still says "waiting for your orders captain" but there are none to give.
Plotted info you put on the map still gets erased when returning to a save. Weather state does save however.

Overall the mouse movement is much smoother, both on deck and inside the sub.

Well thats all I can report on for now, only ran it for about half an hour last night as I had other things to do.

Edit:
Oh one more thing, I did manually install the no halo/bubble mod but did not simply swap out the entire lights cfg file but rather just changed the two lines that this mod did, and then swapped out the human dialog DDS file(the patch didn't touch that). I did it this way cause I see that the patch did change the lights cfg file, but not the two lines that the no halo mod does.
Which was near the top under "interactiveobjecthighlight" and is the next two lines, that read Spread=2
Blend=0.5
Just change them to =0 for both. Then swap out the human dialog DDS for the one included with the mod.
This worked fine, but say if you were to simply install this mod as is, it likely would undo something the patch did. Which I think is with the light adaptation I believe, and may be other things as well but not sure. Btu you certainly wouldnt want to swap out the entire lights cfg file.

Actually, this was the trick to unman the gun before the patch.. just spamming the 'surface the boat' command. So here is a example how much work was put into this patch.. almost none. :nope:

And btw, the gunner is still pissed off.. he will keep shotting at anything that float after the primary target is sunk. I so wish I have a shotgun in the sub so I can shot in the head the whole crew .. useless ballast :/

Thank you for this information SabreHawk

I only had a short time to try it out last night. It is a step in the right direction. At least some of the major bugs: depth under keel, return to heading, deck gun, morale bug, etc. have been fixed.

what I find more interesting are the number of views (over 14,000) this thread has had. That is as many as the total number of SH3 players who downloaded GWX 3. There is obviously a lot of interest in SH5.

ddrgn 05-12-10 09:52 AM

So true, we didn't even need as many mods as SH4 did to get things to playable.

Riveting post. I don't think in all of my time here, I've seen a more insightful, carefully crafted and well reasoned post. This should be held up for the standard that all Subsim posters should aspire to. What rapier wit, what clarity, what intelligence! Truly, the pinnacle of all Subsim posts that have come before.

Yes, it still is, but you probably don't know exactly the nuances. This interest is not mandatory because we love the game, like you do, it may also be because some still hope that 1.02 patch has made the game playabe from its disastrous state. Next time, try to be more aware of this kind of things, don't let yourself carried away, if you love to play SH5, that doesn't mean that the rest of those who are watching SH5 forums love the game as well. They had some expectations, they put some money in it, so maybe they are still hoping for miracles.

following me around Stronghold? I guess I should be flattered, I never had a cyber-stalker before.
