Katie, Peggy, Patti & Jane,

Bless you for sharing a little bit of your father with us. I did not get to meet him but feel that I know him through you and our forum members who did.

May this dedicated man Rest In Peace.

Small world!

We were on the same boat, just not at the same time ...

Quote:

As a Navy Commander in 1965, he became the Commanding Officer of the Polaris nuclear submarine USS Sam Houston.
I did not report aboard the USS Sam Houston till 1970 and of course being an enlisted man we would not have had too many discussions anyway, especially with Zeb being the captian, but I know and respect many men like Captain Zeb.

Smart, quick, calculating, alert, someone to respect, a leader of men and machines, sleep with one eye open for the radioman at the door.

No doubt in my mind that he would've done whatever the President of the United States ordered him to do.

So long Captain Zeb see you on the other side ...

I hope eternal patrol has mid rats (food for those going on watch lol)

baby Katie

To all the people that have posted you can not imagine how much it helps the process of closure for all of his daughters. To the code name of Admiral Von Gerlach - I loved the picture of a submarine going under the Golden Gate Bridge as Dad was in Cali alot in his early carreer and 3 of his little sailors were born in Cali while he was stationed out there. I am so blessed Dad knew and loved Jesus as he is up there loving all your memories of him and probably adding a few more

In HIS Glory
Katie

I never knew but he is one of those people who I wish I did. They laid their lives on the line every time they slipped moorings. I for one am extremely grateful to all of them for their long months of solitude, for all our sakes. Speak his name and he will never die.

As a sub finds peace in the depths, may his soul find its peace in the hands of the Almighty.

Remember that no one is truly lost to us, for we hold in our hearts and minds the memories they shared with us.

Requiescat in pace
