Hello lads,

I have been playing sub games off and on since Silent Service on my Apple IIe when I was like 8. God I am feeling old. I played 688 Attack Sub, and then didn't play another sub game until SH4 (yes I missed out on SH3!?!)

I recently bought SH5 on a whim, and it was so utterly unfinished that I nearly just uninstalled it. But the engine had potential. I so wanted to walk around my sub inside a GOOD sub simulator! So I started looking for modding resources, and I found this cozy little place :)

I am still hesitant about this endeavour. I was a hardcore IL-2 player for many years. If you played IL-2 online back in the day you might know me. Tag was Lodestone, and I was one of the creators of Skies~of~Valor, a server I am still very proud of despite not being directly involved anymore. IL-2 sucked so much time out of my life. It was another solid engine wrapped in an unfinished game. Once the exe was cracked about six years back it became mod-a-palooza. I'm sure some of you know what I am talking about. Soon I found myself, in addition to running a server and researching for mission building, also hip-deep in making mods, mod packs, mod manuals, etc, etc. The game became so much better. It bloomed. It was a heady time. Il-2's 'happy time' ;) I salivate-slash-fear for the fun-slash-huge-time-commitment looming on the horizon what with the imminent release of 777s reboot of IL-2. I is scared. At least it looks like it will be brilliant and won't require mods to complete the experience.

So now here I sit at the beginning of another adventure modding a lump of coal into a diamond. Like I said before I am hesitant, but have chosen to give it a go nonetheless. Who needs sleep anyway? I`ll sleep when I`m dead.

This site is what sold me on taking the plunge. I am so delighted to have found what seems to be a helpful, positive modding community for this game! I have already experienced the joy of several HUGE grins thanks to the mods here on Subsim. Thank you to all of you, from the top mod gods, all the way down to the friendly people answering questions in the forum here. I know what kind of commitment and love it takes to do what you do. I hope you know how much interlopers like me appreciate the work you have all done for not just yourselves, but us too.

Salute, meine Herren!

Don't. I was playing Silent Service on an Atari 520ST at the same time and I was already well into my thirties. You'll find a lot of folks here your age and older.

Hello all,

My name is Jimmy, 33 years old, system admin and from Belgium.

I'm a member since 2007 but never posted on the forums, i'm playing silent hunter since version 3 came out.

Like many of you i tried Sh5 when it came out but it was a major disappointment since i had many problems with the campaign missions.
I play different game genres with a preference for rts and simulators, for the moment i play a lot of Wargame Airland Battle.

I really like complexity, challenge and depth in my games, stuff most modern games lack

With all the mods for Sh5 available the game experience got a major boost, vanilla had so much potential but clearly lacked adequate execution.
Anyway, pleasure to be here, big thanks to the admin and the modding crowd on these forums!

Cu guys

JC
