hi

I have a question about thermal layers future in sh3 commander.

Always when I run sh3 by sh3 commander the min height values in ai_sensors.dat stay at default -300. Is this ok?

Does the values schould change in every run of commander or not?

Assuming that you have not manually edited any of the "Randomised events.cfg" files, there's a 50% chance that you will get an adjusted value. Thus it is not unusual to get a series of stock SH3 values.

I see, so how could I change that to etc. 75%?? By editing "Randomised events.cfg"?

Open *each* "Randomised events*.cfg" file and look for the lines:

Code:

[0:data\Library\AI_Sensors.dat]
;Randomly adjusts active/passive listening device values to simulate the impact of thermal layers - by Hemisent
;Only MinHeight values are changed
ChooseFrom=10
RndMidPat=1

You'll see that underneath are 5 blocks of settings, labelled 0 to 4. The easiest way is to change the ChooseFrom value to 7 to set the chance to 71% (ie 5 "blocks of settings" divided by 7); 6 to set the chance to 83% (ie 5 divided by 6) or 8 to set the chance to 63% (ie 5 divided by 8).

Alternatively, you can create your own set of randomised values by:
1) copying the block:
Code:

4_x0470=-270
4_x05FC=-260
4_x0784=-275
4_x090C=-270
4_x0A94=-268
4_x0C20=-275
4_x0DAC=-265
4_x0F38=-263
4_x10C4=-265
4_x124C=-260
4_x142B=-257
4_x160A=-255
4_x17ED=-263
4_x19D0=-260
4_x1BB3=-255
4_x1D96=-253

2) pasting immediately below
3) changing each 4_ to 5_
4) changing the settings to whatever you want
5) repeating the above as many times as you like

So, adding one new set of values (ie total of 6 sets) and leaving the ChooseFrom value at ten will give you a 60% chance, adding two sets and leaving the ChooseFrom value at ten will give you a 70% chance and so on. You can also change the ChooseFrom value, so that, for example, by adding one extra set of values and changing ChooseFrom to 6, you will provide a 100% chance (6/6) of getting a different set of values each time.

The choice is yours. :up:

I hope this is clear.

Oops - I'm well into my first patrol after upgrading to SH3 Commander 2.6, and everything seems to be going well so far - but I just realized I forgot to add back in the SH3 Commander skin pack that I had added in to my previous installation.

I'm downloading it now (since I'm not sure how old the one I used last time was, even if I could find it again), but I'm wondering whether this is something I can add in mid-patrol or whether I should wait till I get back to port. Also, I'm not sure exactly how this SH3 Commander skin pack relates to whatever is going on with GW and/or NYGM (I'm still using GW 1.0 now, but planning to upgrade to the latest GW or NYGM (not sure which I'll try next yet) probably before my next patrol) - is there any real dependency between those things so that I'm screwing something up or missing something big by not having the skin pack installed at the moment (like, does it affect whether certain ship types show up in the game or anything like that), or is just some additional variety so that I might be seeing a little more variety in the way some ships types look if/when I do run into them in the game?

I'm mostly picking off single tankers and merchants in the Caribbean with my Type IXB on this patrol, so I'm not seeing any big convoys lately where the variety would be real obvious anyway, but I was liking what I was seeing in my previous Atlantic convoy battles with my Type VIIB and the older versions of SH3 Commander I was using so I'd like to get this pack re-installed as soon as it makes sense to do so.

Thanks for this great program :up:

As the skin pack consists solely of tga files, it shouldn't matter. However, the cautious side of me would wait until when next in port; I don't trust SH3 at all with mid-patrol saves!

It just provides alternate ship skins (which vary according to career date) for certain already-installed ship types. It doesn't adjust ship availability, frequency etc.

Awesome - thanks for the help and prompt response - your program and support are outstanding as always :rock:

Just a quick one JScones,

In the readyme doc for GW is a paragraph referring to Compatibilities with SH3 Commander and recommends to "leave or set the 'Lost contact time' to 15 mins in order to maintain the integrity of the destroyer aggression modifications" and says to refer to the SH3 Commander Help file for further Instructions.

This I cannot find. Is there a setting as such in SH3 Cmdr? It doesn't show in 2.6.

1. Open "Randomised events.cfg", located under the "\SH3 Commander\Cfg" folder
2. Look for the lines:
Code:

;----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[0:data\Cfg\SIM.CFG]
AI Detection|Lost contact time=I|15|45|Y ;Randomises the time Escorts spend looking for you after losing contact, in minutes

3. EITHER a) delete the three lines or b) change the third line to:
Code:

AI Detection|Lost contact time=I|15|15|Y ;Randomises the time Escorts spend looking for you after losing contact, in minutes
4. Save and close
5. Repeat for EACH "Randomised events_19*.cfg" file

FWIW I play GW but haven't made the suggested change and I haven't noticed anything adverse.

Thanks for the quick response JScones. In that case I'll leave it be.:up:

This thread is the only one that I am subscribed to for now, so post your q here and generally I'll respond within 12 hours (usually upon receipt of Subsim's "Reply to post" email). It's just that I don't go through the forums as much at the moment so will miss anything posted elsewhere.

Other alternatives are PM or email (after reading the SH3Cmdr FAQ and Help files of course). Or, depending on the q, you could post in the main Mods Workshop forum as I'm sure others will will be able to help.

What would i have to do to make all the ranks be in Russian?

Open "\SH3 Commander\Cfg\SH3 options.cfg" and overtype either the German or American rank labels with your Russian ones. Then make sure that you have selected the same language under SH3Cmdr's SH3 Options screen (Rank Translations option on the Text Settings screen). That's it.

If you weren't using SH3Cmdr, then you'd make the changes directly to SH3's **_menu.txt file.
