May even be out in a few hours.

Great! I've got a 4 day weekend and was really looking forward to starting a new career.

Is there a way to still get the upgrade to 3.1.1 zip file?

JScones 05-23-08 07:28 AM

I have just released R3.1.3. Changes:
  • Improved handling of old, dead careers (no more "List index" error) - this is just a cleaner way to handle an error that results when users don't take heed of the SH3Cmdr installation instructions.
  • Now correctly sets the U-boat type when continuing a career with a new commander - bug introduced in R3.0.
  • Now correctly randomises crewmen names and experience for all U-boat types - bug introduced in R3.1.1.
Basically just a few bug fixes and a more graceful way of handling a user-created problem.

Downloading and installing
R3.1.3 is cumulative, in that it includes the changes made in R3.1.1 and R3.1.2. So installation is EXACTLY the same...

IF YOU ARE RUNNING SH3CMDR R3.1.x simply use SH3Cmdr's "Updates" feature. It will download a small zip file. ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS UNZIP THE CONTENTS OF THE ZIP FILE INTO YOUR \SH3 COMMANDER FOLDER, OVERWRITING the files already there (only two will be updated). Nothing else needs to be done. You don't even need to rollback. And you certainly don't need to reinstall GWX or NYGM config files.

IF YOU ARE RUNNING SH3CMDR R3.0 OR EARLIER you must download the FULL installation to get these improvements. Go to the first page in this thread and follow the instructions. Do not download via SH3Cmdr's "Updates" feature. PLEASE pay particular attention to the instructions if you are a GWX or NYGM user and PLEASE read through this thread before posting that it's all too confusing.

Now I am pleading to the (hopefully) few - this software has taken MANY MANY HOURS to develop, so all I ask is that you take JUST ONE MINUTE to carefully read the installation instructions above. If you don't understand them, please read them again. I cannot make them any simpler. In the end, following them means that we both benefit from a lack of pain and frustration.

JScones - download from your page doesn't work for me. Could you check it?

PS. Fixed

Okay, I finally got 3.1.2 installed and now this one comes along. I downloaded and installed it with no problem, but I think your instructions are both confusing and misleading. Why?

That is NOT what happens. As I said before, using the "Updates" feature does not download a small zip file. It kicks you out of Commander with no explanation. The user must then go to your site and download it directly. And then he doesn't get two small zip files to install; he gets an installer which he must then run, and it feels like it's re-installing the whole thing, even if it isn't.

I'll admit that none of this is hard to do, but the instructions aren't clear at all.

BULL****!

1. Click on "Updates" link
2. A screen will appear saying an update is available. The screen includes a ==>>DOWNLOAD UPDATE<<== link. You click it.
3. You should then get an open/save confirmation box. If you don't, it's because YOU turned the confirmation box off (it is part of Windows, not my software). In this case, the file goes to wherever your d/l files go.
4. You then go to the folder where your d/l saved. Shock horror, there'll be a new file in there!
5. You then open the file and unzip into your SH3Cmdr folder.

Like I said, I can't make it any easier - if you can't even grasp the basics of your own computer, THEN PACK IT UP AND TAKE IT BACK TO THE SELLER!

JScones 05-23-08 10:46 AM

I have pulled SH3Cmdr - it is no longer available for d/l.

I don't even know where this "confirmation box" is.

I am trying to learn, but there are some things that aren't always obvious.

So everybody suffers because I'm an idiot. That sounds about average for me.

My apologies to everyone.

Bad, Sailor Steve, Bad!!

Jimbuna 05-23-08 12:54 PM

Oh come on now Jaesen, what's the point in pulling your programme to the detriment of the whole community because of a disagreement/misunderstanding with Steve.

I'm betting your bigger than that.

It is not my intention to interfere or take sides.

SH3 Commander is probably the most popular and widely used piece of standalone software on this forum.

Give it a day or so and reconsider.....for the sake of ALL the community.

That'll teach us! :yep:

Wisecracks aside...
Speaking from personal experience, if I were in your shoes... I know later I'd realise it was a bit of an overreaction and I'd feel a bit silly. And it wouldn't be the first time. :nope: Maybe that's just me, but anyway, it' be great to get that version please, if/when your frustration dies down a bit.

Just to confirm.........

SH3Commander "update" feature worked 100% FINE for me this very afternoon!

Clicked the button.
Clicked the "Download Update" button
Saved to my usual place (Backup Drive/SH3Mods folder)
Checked downloaded zipfile. (2 files inside - 1 x readme, 1 x SH3Cmdr .exe file)
Unzipped into my MAIN SH3Commander "root" folder (C:/Prog Files/SH3Commander)
Job done!!:D

Excellent work as per usual, Jaessen! Credit where it's due!

'nil illegitimus carborundum', mate! (= don't let the b'stards grind ya down!)

Cheers

Damn, damn and blast !!!!!!!!

I just get in from work and read the posts, to my great joy I find out about a new SH3 release  Then total dissappointment I find a few posts later the d/l has been pulled :damn: C'mon Jaesen you are way bigger than this shipmate ! Looking forward to the new version being available, next time I'll try not to let work interfere with my forum browsing.

Best regards.
