But as I said, I didn't really notice any difference so far, so maybe the testserver was just overloaded the first time. I can't explain the drastic difference in results in any other way.

I might have used an "internet speed optimization tool" a few years ago with my Win Xp. Since it was already a couple of years old it might have not been compatible with high speed DSL. But since that is more than three years ago I don't know for sure anymore.
I just wanted to say that I don't think it is a native Win XP problem.

I think since it's called the internet and because I hardly open any local websites I see no point in testing with local or even domestic server.

There is, the ping is huge and your indicated speed suffers a lot because of that.
