Wow, that looks awesome!

Chad 05-04-10 05:06 PM

That is awesome! Would you mind posting up another screenshot of it with the wireframe?

Very cool :yeah:

ajrimmer42 05-05-10 10:06 AM

Thanks a lot guys! :salute:

Wireframe as requested, unfortunately it sorta blends into one!:

I'm already planning my next :DL Probs something a teeny bit smaller...

How did you make the cables connecting the gas bag to the rest of it? Making cables/wires properly was one of the things I never figured out how to do...

Chad 05-05-10 10:30 AM

Wow thanks so much :) That is a TON of polygons :haha:

They're just thin cylinders with a rope texture applied

Raptor1 05-05-10 11:04 AM

Hmm, figured as much...

Chad 05-05-10 08:13 PM

To create that smooth curve of the ropes he probably used a LOT of segments in the cylinders. I'm not sure how else he could have done it that smooth :|\\

Not quite as fancy as you all's work (especially yours, Rimmer, cripes that's fantastic), but something I've been working on for a few days now:

This was something I had put together a looooong while ago, and found lying around a couple days ago. I added the lighting, then started working on the rivets, had to fix the lighting, and then some weathering etc... Still working on the metal though, and the light. And the oil stains. And some of the shadows.

I like it! What program did you make it in? Texturing is one thing i have a lot of trouble with when it comes to my artwork and wish to get better.

Well cheers buddy, wow, its only the second thing I've ever made! :salute: Your's is pretty damn good too tho, I could never quite do custom mats and textures!

Dowly 05-06-10 06:52 AM

Hmm.. couldn't you have done those ropes with the cloth (or whatsmacallit) modifier? Doesn't it take the mesh and sort of wraps it around another mesh?

Or if 3ds max has constrains like Modo, which allows to do the same but by choosing the right constrain and moving the ropes down and they'll wrap around the balloon.

Good old Photoshop 7. I learned some tricks when I started doing skins for Il-2, but textures (Especially metals) are still my weak area. And lighting.

I'm sure there is lol, I'm still learning the basics so I just did the simplest, yet probably not easiest, things! I'll have to have a play around see what things do, or what happens when I press that button....

Ah, right. Same here, mate. :O:
