IF not for the GWX team SH3 would have been off my hard drive YEARS ago, and I know of at least 3 other folks I have shown GWX to that bought the game just to play your mod.

UBI should be throwing you guys a banquet in your honor!

Kind words....and very much appreciated http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...s/thumbsup.gif

We had the pleasure of meeting Dan Dimetrescu of the Silent Hunter Development team (I hope I spelled that correctly.) in Houston recently. We had some interesting discussions.

I must tell you, that Dan really cares about the work they are doing... and I must also tell you that Ubisoft really piles the pressure on the Silent Hunter devs. Generally speaking, Ubisoft is more concerned with how much money they can squeeze out of a project as rapidly as possible. (As is ANY game-developing company.)

Without the Silent hunter Series, there can be NO Grey Wolves Expansion.

Not only that, but the GWX Dev Team doesn't have to deal with a few of the same restrictions that the Silent Hunter Dev team must follow. If we need more time... we simply take it. If they need more time... they have to fight for it.

If anything, Ubisoft should throw the Silent Hunter Dev Team a banquet... and pay them so much money that they'd never want to go elsewhere...

I know that people mean well when such things are said about the Grey Wolves Dev team... but our relationship with the Silent Hunter Devs would be better described as a 'partnership.'

We can't do what we do without them.;)

An SDK would very likely not be the cure-all that people seem to think. Odds are that it would not be able to change hard-code, and so some limitations we'd still have to live with.

makman94 12-09-08 02:35 PM

i am realy trying to understand here,

you said that you have a meeting with the sh devs (which is... very impressive) and then i am reading your post and you don't say the point of meeting or if something good came out of that.
all time here i am reading about this legendary sdk and you say that have a 'partnership' relationship with the devs and you don't say a word about that.i don't realy care about this(becuase my knowledge at programming is very low ) but others i am syre are very interested.
don't take my message as an attack , i am only interested at the goals of this meeting

take care

This is the whole meeting, from my point of view only, so it's mostly about the people themselves and what we did while there. I'm also not part of the GWX team, but they are friends and a lot was discussed at different times.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=143186

If you want to skip the non-relevant parts, the discussion was Saturday night and there was some more Sunday afternoon.

The only dev there was Dan (Elenaiba is his screen name here). The point of the meeting was just for as many Subsim members as possible to get together and meet each other. I can't tell you anything more than that (I'm not hiding anything, I just don't know any more.

Kpt. Lehmann will have to elaborate, if he can and wishes to.

Truthfully?

We Asked Dan what he does now as compaired to his past duties.
We asked his thoughts on how UBI looks upon ALL modders.
We sorta teased about why reflections were as they were.
(We mentioned Vampires)

For the most part?
All of us were there just to meet everyone.
Not to Bug people.
Dan is a really cool Guy and I'm glad I got to meet him.
But I did not want to bug him much about SH stuff.
We had a few good chats,
but nothing that would really change things.

Sounds great!
It's awesome having somebody that loves SH series developing SH series.
It's more about passion and less about money.

But still, I wouldn't resist asking if SH5 will be atlantic ww2 senario...

I hope one day I meet you guys... sounds like a good bunch of people to hang out with.
And sure tons of laughing must come out on those meetings!

Sledgehammer427 12-09-08 10:37 PM

well, Thomsen, IIRC you live in canada?(one of your threads I heard canada, you, and moving, so if i'm wrong, theres a dogsled waiting here for ya) i live in northern Illinois, near Racerboy, i think privateers lurking here in the state too, so, if for some odd reason you decide to come down here I'll gladly welcome you! we could have our own lil subsim meet!

Philipp_Thomsen 12-09-08 10:45 PM

Actually I live in Brazil at the momment.

I plan on going to Canada on foot next year, to live there.

I won't stay on a specific place foreven, I plan on go lurking around the world on foot until I die. I don't want a carrer or anything like that. I might work in different places for short periods of time, knowing new people. Easy life, as I don't plan to get married or have children.

I would love to go in one of those subsim meetings, but it's much easier to go into canada then into usa. But I'll find a way. Even if I have to illegally get in the country and walk my way up to the meeting place.

I can testify to that.

you mean down. well, let me know when you plan on dropping by!

Madox58 12-09-08 11:38 PM

I'm in Northern Ohio.
SledgeHammer427 is roughly 6 hours drive time away.
depending on exact location near Chicago.

PT, Your closer to Ref right now.
He's in Argentina I believe.

And on foot to Canada from Brazil?
Are you NUTZ?
The Drug Cartels will kill you in Mexico
if you make it that far!

Sledgehammer427 12-09-08 11:45 PM

after he jumps over the panama canal!
kek
and I live about an hours drive from the Quad Cities. unless you drive like me, make that 45 mins.
looks like we should have a midwest subsim meet

Madox58 12-09-08 11:56 PM

I have stated several times.
I have no problem with setting up meets.
Chicago with the U-Boat there should be a top
meeting for an adhock SubSim thing.
It would not be an OFFICAIL SubSim met.
But what the heck!
Anytime to meet with a few is a good time.
It's a days trip for me.
What, 40 bucks gas and a room for a nite?

LOL!
No, I plan on go south.
Uruguai
Argentina
Chile
Than take a ship from chile to the west coast of canada.
I would like actually to drop on the west coast of USA and climb my way up thru the west trail to canada. The west trail is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
