I find it odd that people say they've never run into the Yamato, I see her fairly often I feel .. not every patrol but it's not as uncommon as some make it out to be, actually I ran into another task force with 2 Yamato's and 2 carriers on the way home from that one patrol above I was talking about where I couldn't sink her, but was I out of torpedos .. my bad luck! SUBSUNK Big Time !
Hello please advise me here
I used to run SH4 v1.3 without any problems. A couple of weeks ago I suffered a catastrophic crash unrelated to the game and had to carry out a factory reinstall on my 3 year old HP Pavilion 1723. Since then I have been reinstalling everything, incuding up to date drivers as you would expect. I reinstalled SH4 followed by the latest patch 1.4. I first scented trouble when the intro appeared in psychodelic colours very different from the way it used to appear. Apart from this, the little potted history of the campaign to date - you know the one with the voice over and the charts, shuddered horribly. The game otherwise loaded easily. However as soon as I approached action (ie one of my expertly aimed torpedoes about to blow the stern off a jap destroyer. Or an imminent bombing attack by a zero) the game crashed. Not an ordinary ctd but the 'blue screen of death' - a system memory dump. I removed everything and reinstalled the game without patches - same result. The problem seems to be with my computer but can anyone tell me what is wrong... I was always happy playing this game and I feel bereft... Please experts, give me the benefit of your advice |
@Doolittle81
When you uninstall SH4 via Add/Remove Programs it is actually running this command: C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{0D005F09-A5F4-473B-A901-5735C6AF5628}\setup.exe -runfromtemp -l0x0009 -removeonly On my machine the directory C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{0D005F09-A5F4-473B-A901-5735C6AF5628} has setup.exe, a setup.ini file that has the string "Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific" in it, and several other files. It also has a 1.04.000 subdirectory that has many of the same files. The Uninstall option from the control panel may no longer point to where these files are on your machine. See if you can find them, then run setup.exe -runfromtemp -l0x00009 -removeonly from that directory. |
All Work!

Running that "setup.exe" from this directory gives me the same Windows error message that "Setup.exe has stopped working" which I get when I try to Uninstall thru Control Panel. Any advice on my next step...anyone? Additional relevant information: From other advice I've received over the last two days, I've also previously found the {0D005F9...etc...} folder at two locations in my Registry. One location is in the uninstall folder in the SOFTWARE\Microsoft\...Uninstall folder. Any advice on registry changing? (Other than to make a backup copy beforehand, of course) Moderators: I'd like to let this post sit here for a day or so to see if anyone has any additional advice before I take any Registry change action. After that time, I will delete this post so as to unclutter this thread (sorry for somewhat temporarily imposing upon the thread).... ------------------------------------------------------- POST edited/shortened drastically on 4 Dec so as not to further offend anyone else. I will totally delete this afternoon. |

1) The -runfromtemp, etc., are not part of the filename but are command line options passed to setup.exe. To run it with these options: a) Open an elevated command prompt (find cmd.exe in c:\windows\system32, right click it and select "Run as Administrator"). b) type cd "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{0D005F09-A5F4-473B-A901-5735C6AF5628}" and hit enter. c) type setup.exe -runfromtemp -l0x0009 -removeonly and hit enter. The above probably won't make it work, but its worth a shot first. 2) Use MsiZap.exe to remove the record of this installation in the registry. This doesn't remove the SH4 files on your machine or registry entries used by the game, but it does safely remove the record in the registry that let's Windows Installer itself know that SH4 was installed. I've never used InstallShield, but I'm assuming it uses Windows Installer under the hood. a) Info on MsiZap.exe is available at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa370523.aspx b) To get it, download and install the free Windows SDK at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en c) To run it, open an elevated command prompt as above, cd to the directory msizap.exe is in, and run msizap.exe T {0D005F09-A5F4-473B-A901-5735C6AF5628}. d) Delete the folder C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{0D005F09-A5F4-473B-A901-5735C6AF5628} After running MsiZap, the computer won't know you had SH4 installed, even though a bunch of its files will still be around. Go ahead and delete whatever SH4 files are on your machine. I would leave the registry alone at this point since a new installation should write any needed entries. Go ahead and attempt to install SH4 now off the DVD, it should work. |
