I can log in fine. There isn't really anything to see but the beta tester forum is operational:up:
GLEE! |
Just to let you know... the installer beta upload is dragging its feet... Looks like its going to be a while longer... also please remember I have to give the dev team first crack at it.
|
I have no hurry to get the beta, I get it at the same time as the testers.

Status report... JScones is having great difficulties with uploading bandwidth that starts out great... and swiftly diminishes to nearly nothing.
It is getting done but might take a day or day and a half longer than we'd like. It certainly happening... but as befits our luck... every step is like pulling teeth. |
Had to get a little sleep and eats again... stupid human limitations... Will be back in the control room again in a bit.

Careful, the bananas fell and made a mess no one's cleaned up yet.

I might add here that GWX players will also be able to download a small utility I have developed that will allow them to very easily identify corrupt or incomplete downloads before they run the installer.
By using the utility, users can obtain the MD5 digest (a 128-bit "fingerprint" represented as 32 hexadecimal digits) of a selected file and can then compare it against the published MD5 digest which will be listed with the main download link. If the digests are different, then your download is not a perfect copy of the source (ie it's no doubt corrupt or incomplete). Comparing MD5 digests is a very widely used way of identifying incomplete or corrupted downloads and is much more accurate than a simple file size comparison. Indeed, the installer uses MD5 digests internal to recognise corrupt files at run-time, but this utility will save you the hassle of getting that far. ;) We really took notice of player concerns with downloading and installing and whilst this utility won't fix any download problems you have (as we've all read here, problems can range from software to core hardware related), it should make identification much quicker and easier. |
Thank you JScones! I'm sure the utility will come in very handy (I never used the MD5 check thingy before as the program someone suggested wanted me to dig in my reg files. :nope:)
|
Yes, whilst release will coincide with GWX, the utility will not just be limited to use with GWX files. D/l a file from any site listing an MD5 digest and you'll be able to compare your d/l to the source.
One small exe file, no Registry or other crap to contend with. :) BTW, not too much longer now... ;) |
