Ok im new here but not new to the subsim forums, ive only started playing SHIII in the last week and found it quite good and now well im addicted to it.

I normaly command Akla class SSN's from russia in dangerous waters, but i thought hey il give this a go.

So far im based in the 1st division in brest france its 1943 now and ive done nearly 10 patrols and sunk only 10,000 tonnes (about).

My U boat is a german type VIIC U-605 to be precise im enjoying it and im adapting to the slow moving non wire guide non automated submarines, the akula i command is highly sophisticated and can dive to 575 meters this submarine struggles at 150meters also i can do 35 knots this one just about 8knots.

So im learning and adapting but its a long long road to go.

Any advice or tips tricks tactics would be apreciated

Kap, 1943 the happy times are well and truly over. Attack with a lot more caution.

Hi Kapitan welcome to SH3:up: As Steed says in 43 the happy times are well and truely over. Attack with lots of caution and stay safe. Do you play just stock sh3 or are you using any mods:hmm:

If Bernard ever gets transferred to your boat, shoot him.

1943 upgrade those flak guns, or you could grab the U-flak VIIC later on. I prefer the IX - IXD2 boats, longer range & more torpedoes. Still the VIIC's are good boats and quicker at diving. If you can sneak past escorts then do so or if there's only one escort then take him out so you then have the convoy all to yourself with out any worry about that subhunter close by. Spend your torpedoes on C2/C3 cargos & tankers this will give you higher tonnage score.

Also try to remeber when diving deep your in a uboat not an Akula:arrgh!:

Tis good to see you got SH3 running!

Aha, the Russian Captain joins the German Kriegsmarine!

Welcome M8 to SH3,

yep, old type submarines cant dive that deep, some can you can find a whole technical data in the SH3 main menu under MUSEUM. this loads up a 3D showroom with all the models in SH3 with tecnical data.

also kapitan, do you have TGW mod install already ? if not you better do so, it even makes SH3 better then it is right now.:rock:and keep an eye out for the expansion of it GWX.

Hi, Kap. Good to see you in the world of SH3. You said you took your boat down to 175 and it went bang. Do you have the latest patch installed? You should be able to dive below 200m. I routinely dive that deep when trying to evade the DDs. You should also be able to survive around 230m depending in the boat. I hardly go beyond 200m, though. Be sure you upgrade your sub as you go. When you get to the later years of the war you will definately need them. You should also try some of the mods out there, too. But that will probably be better for another thread or three.

At the moment im just getting the hang of it learning it all so when i do finaly get things working out il be able to do alot better.

Also the sub went bang at 175 meters due to the fact my hull integrity was down to 34%

Ahh... Ok... That will do it.:rotfl: Although I'm surprised you made it that far with only 34%. Also, bear in mind when diving too deep your hull integrity will go down until the eventual big bang.

Have you tried attacking a ship in heavy fog yet? That will really make you miss your Akula! :damn::lol:

Where are you downloading from? There are mirrors from Filefront, Rapidshare, Fileplanet, and Gizzmoe has a torrent set up. I'm not sure if the Subsim mirror is active or not. Did you check the main GW thread?

You will find that the difference between 1939 and 1943 is like night and day. I'd recommend starting from there, and in a Type VII boat.

Yeah it became harder come 1943 i used to run in on the surface at flank if i saw a DD or escort id dive get rid of it then surface and gun the convoy.

But thats my fun practice war done now for starting serious.

The big difference between 39 and 43 is the detection capabilities of the escorts. Early U-boat aces liked to slip through the screen on the surface at night and ride between the columns selecting their targets and firing point blank. Later in the war it became very difficult to even come within contact of a convoy because of the cracked Enigma code and then because of Huff Duff, Radar, better tactical doctrine, and a much larger pool of available escorts a successful attack was a feat both of genius and luck.

The early war is where the noobs love to play and the late war is where the old salts spend their entire career. Night and day is a very apt expression for this.

Not realy... lot's of experienced players start their campaings in 1939 to see how far in the war they can get without ever being killed. If they don't make it till the end, they start all over again... many have indeed made it till the end of the war, but many experienced players have never seen the later years either. ;)

Still others, play with a "relay" like system that starts them in 1939, and if they're ever killed, they pick up from where they left of by starting a new carrer at the same date that their former one ended.

People play at different points in the war regardless of experience
