I agree. ANy crazy knows that if he goes into a school to shoot the place up, no one will be armed in the area which enables him to do maximum damage. Its come to this - the moral fabric of our society is falling apart and now you must take preventive action. Why is this happening now you ask? Because you don't live in a perfect world and someone will always feel like the underdog, and rise up to hurt those he/she thinks surpressed them.
In history, no man went around unarmed, so for a person like this to rise up would have been testimount to suicide while accomplising nothing. Today, a person being armed is a rarity, so a person is able to wig out without fear of reprisal. Cops don't do any good - they are almost always left to pick up the peices. So quite frankly, the best way to deal with the situation is to go back to our roots - back to a society like we used to have. One where a persons honor again rises to the top of what people strive for. Though history was never perfect, I do think the world we have today, I think our ancestors would find rather pathetic. SImply acknoledging that people exist is even disappearing today. I could go on on this subject, but my point is already made.

Well, I think you guys know where I stand. I'm one of those old dinosaurs that thinks people should be responsible for their actions, that criminals should be punished, 3 strikes yer out, etc.
One of the most obscene statistics I've ever seen was the one in some DoJ report that the "average" murderer had committed 4 felonies before he/she ever killed anyone. If that's not an argument for more jails, I don't know what it.
As for this article, I agree...it's the height of folly to continue as we are, where our schools remain at the mercy of crazy people, or worse, terrorists.

I vote for involuntary penal batallions drawn from the prison population........then make it a life-long commitment.
