View Full Version : Problems with notebooks?
Hello everyone. I have been reading the forums and reviews and I think I would really like to join the community and purchase the game. However, every where I look to buy the game (online, stores) it states that laptops are not supported. Is there anybody out there who plays on a notebook/laptop and have problems? I have and Acer Aspire 1800 Series. Pent. IV 3.2 Ghz HT Not a great video card (ATI x600 128 mb) but 1 gig or ram and 100 gig hard drive. So, is video going to be a problem? It doesn't have to look 'stunning'. If it functions well enough for me to have a good experience than I will be happy. Thanks in advanced for your help.

I use a Toshiba laptop with a Celron M processor, 1.4 GHz, 702 available ram and a Radeon video card.
I have no problem playing the stock game with 1.4b patch, stock Grey Wolves and SH3 Commander.
I'd try it if I were you. My only question would be the video card.
Welcome, mate ! i agree with von Zelda, the question is about the video card... Good luck anyway, fellow kaleun!

Yous should do fine with your computer... maybe upgrade to 2 Gigs of memory?
at any rate, with or without the upgrade, I think you should be able to play SHIII in a decent manner for the most part... you'll get ocassional hickups in frame rates from time to time (like when in the middle of a convoy in a very bad storm) but that happens pretty much on any computer

RAM is the main problem of any SH3 player! Just make you have enought! Install the game, then in the background activate Windows Task Manager and turn on the game. Then you'll see how much CPU and memory power does it takes away from you!

I play the game on a laptop. My video cand is the Ati x200 mobile with 128 MB of shared memory. I think the 600 has shared memory also. The game plays fine except in harbor (about 8 fps) or when a lot of particles rendering is needed. Otherwise I get 20 to 50. You have to be careful with some of the mods as they may take a lot of video memory, and since you have shared memory, it will slow your CPU. I have 1GB of memory. I am thinking of going to 2GB but it will cost a bunch to do this. Nevertheless Vista will probably need this much, so I may have to go the well and do it.

i play on a HP P4 3.0Ghz 1.2gigs of RAM and ATI RADEON9000 128mb(shared)
it works, it runs. with greywolves no less. the graphics are not the greatest and i turned down a lot of the effects but it's playable except for some stutters and minor glitches. make sure you have ur laptop well ventilated when playing though, aka give fans lots of clearance. when i first started out i had no clearnace and it overheated and went into auto-shut down. the game is worth getting and playing on ur laptop. unless you want to wait for SH4.
