View Full Version : No Water, and Psychodelic Crewmen!

I think I actually know the answer to this question, but I thought I would pose it, anyway.
My U-Boat sits in a "hole in the ocean", and there is no water. Also, belowdecks, my crewmen have uniforms in psychodelic colors, and a couple of them are actually disembodied heads!
I realise that this has to do with Pixel Shading, and I'm upgrading in about a week (I have the old nVidea Geforce MX-4000, that has NO pixel shading). I can play the game, of course, but at night, "flying" a German submarine can be disconcerting and disorienting (the heads can be disconcerting, too).
Is there anything that can be done to add water, at least, to a subsim, until I upgrade my video card? I know that emulation doesn't work ... no one wants a framerate of 1.
If there's nothing that can be done, I'm only eleven hours out of Kiel (I play at 1x speed), so there's a lot of transit to be done. Comments and/or suggestions?

Sorry mate. You need a new graphic card, there is just no other way. Your lucky it even works, some people can't ge their SH3 to work as it's a memory hog and you need a decent graphic card to get all the nice shots :cool:

Thanks for the reply. The new card will have 512mb video ram and pixel shading 1.4. If that doesn't do it, this old guy will buy a console!

Should od just fine :D
But remember you'll be needing RAM. At least 1GB if you're gonna play with the supermods and more if you want that the gun really runs smoothly! I have 2GB DDR2 RAM and only had problems when I put around 100 planes in the sky (more of the game engines problem then of my computer)

you are in other dimension , the twilight zone :rotfl: , the place where old ships and phantom crews sails in a endless dark ocean.
The only solution is upgrade your graphic card, the old mx cards donīt support shaders,
mi old gf 2 titanium was a great card but unfortunately it donīt render water reflections..:cry:
i bought a gforce 6600 gt 128 mb ddr3 when the game was released and runs very well and smooth, despite i am running with 512 of ram, :88) ( i will upgrade the memory the next month to a 1 gb because it takes time to load)

You should be able to hammer with that card. I use Nvida 6200 OC 256MB. It humps pretty good with this game. Once you got it going you will wish you got it sooner!:yep:

Once again, thanks for the replies, gentlemen.
@Respenus
I'm running 1 gig of RAM, at the current time. The motherboard on my computer only has two memory slots, for some strange reason. It's a Pentium 4 (without hyperthreading), and runs at 1.6 ghz. However, even with the current video card (which is 128 megs of video RAM), I'm able to smoothly play the EB mod for Rome: Total War, with regularly eats up over 800megs of RAM in normal play. After I get the new card, it will be interesting to see how the system deals with all that water!
@Hartmann
On the SH3 game box, there was a warning about the MX cards, but I'm 58 years old! I couldn't see the fine print in the store. At $19.95 US, the game seemed like too good a deal to pass up on. I've got a friend begging me to buy his 6600 (a 256-meg version) from him. But the reason I want a 512 card is because I also plan on running M2TW, when it comes out.
@Warhawk
Tell me about wanting this game sooner. I used to play Aces of the Deep, and loved the game. It was such a welcome departure from the usual "Campaign consists of numerous single missions" kind of games. Even though I currently have no ocean to sail (or hide) in, I'm still transiting to my patrol grid, happily listening to my grammophone, to which I've added mp3's.
By the way, every once in a while, a yellow-to-green blob appears and slowly recedes aft of my boat. Does anyone know what this is? Is it my own boat's exhaust?
