Research councils today confirmed they have put on hold their involvement in a government-backed project that aimed to identify the growth of Islamist groups around the world.
The decision by the Economics and Social Research Council and the Arts and Humanities Research Council followed accusations by academics that they would be putting the lives of British researchers at risk in Muslim countries.
Tolerance, guys, never give up hope. It will all become good in the end. :88)

I just hope the end is a long time from now. Tolerance is the key, we just have to learn to accept everyone as they are and respect each others right to live in peace.
This story was interesting. The original research project already seemed to be crossing the line between social studies and intelligence gathering. Quite right to stop it.

I have little tolerance to someone who wants me dead.

My tolerance ends where it is not unconditionally answered on equal terms.
There are two thousand mosques in Germany, plus around 11-13 thousand islamic organizations, clubs, culture commitees, other institutions and gremias and official houses and the like (so much for our intolerance...) - but if you show up with a single bible in Arabia, you are in deep trouble, if you are a Koptic christian in Egypt, you are object of regular discrimination, if you are a Christian priest, you run the risk of getting stabbed on open street in Turkey and other Muslin countries.
that the Britsh has given up this thing again and so easily, for reasons of Angst that now even comes before actually a threat has been issued, is deeply disgusting. their - and our - cowardliness is suicidal for all that we call "home" and "identity".
"Vorauseilender Gehorsam" - disgusting, stupid, unacceptable.

Let me play devels advocate (No pun intended), but maybe these people left their home countries to get away from the intolerance as found in their homeland? Some Muslims fall into this catagory, maybe even more than I know, so you've got to be tollerant of them however.

I tolerate such people like you describe - when they actively integrate themselves and do not only not oppose our ways and rules and habits and laws and morals and cultural specifics, but submit to them, for they want to become one of us, live with us, and live in our places. In our homes and places, our rules count - not theirs.
I tolerate them when they stand up against the intolerant ones in their own middle, and do not remain silent about them, and do not passively defend them, do not defend intolerance, do not excuse Islamic violence, Sharia, and abuse of and violence against females and discrimination of non-Muslims and females in general, and give testimony themselves and do not hinder testimony by others of Islam being the motivation of the radicals.
I tolerate them when they do not form sub-cultures and colonies within our societies, try to isolte themsleves so that they must not become german - for that is more than just a stamp on an ID-card. I tolerate them when they help us to defend Europe against ongoing Islamisation and leave me in no doubt that they are truly one of us by mind and heart, or full-heartly wish to become that.
If they are truely Islamic in Islam's understanding and self-definition, it is impossible for them to fulfill my demands.
But if they do that, then they are not really Islamic anymore in the original understanding of Islam. That is the reason why sometimes I had become friends with people who claim to be Muslim, but were not muslim at all, like many "Christians" are anything but honest followers of the Christ'S teachings. I do not wish friendship with original, true Muslims, like I do not wish friendship with Neonazis, or Stalinists, or believers of comparable ideologies. I am convinced by now that a Muslim who is real and true in following the dogma of his belief, necessarily must be defined as my and your and our enemy, hostile towards our culural heritage, values, philosophy, ethics, identity.
The problem is not an assumed pervertion of Islam, but islam itself. Read my signature.
So do not accept tolerance for Islam from me. Some things cannot be tolerated without becoming guilty and evil oneself. My position I do not only hold in online discussions, but in my real life as well, for I mean it serious and reject fould compromises that in the long run are oinly to our disadvanatge and delayed retreat. It has made me some serious enemies who even threaten and try to intimidate me. They don't know me well - I feel encouraged by them.
