Yeah yeah, so they can repaint it. Sure the people who did it were probably a bit misguided. I don't know how they expect to stop war by painting a cut-out submarine yellow.

I appreciate the reference to the beatles song though...

It's happened before I believe. The group protesting the practice bombing by the Navy of a small island off Puerto Rico are probably the ones that did it. I've been to Groton many times and seen stuff like this when my ex son-in-law was stationed there. I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of those that did it, all of the people of Groton have a lot of pride in the sub base.

As a UConn alum, I know what Electric Boat and the base means to that town. Those knuckleheads better clear out fast before the lynch mob gets them.

There are better ways to make your voice and political opinions be known. This is just pure juvenile crap.

You got that right Mookie.... they love their sub base. They fought hard to keep it and no one wants to mess with 'em. The people in Groton will nail em to the deck if and when they catch the idiots. It's only a matter of time and they're dead meat.

That's the trouble these days Wilhelm..... it seems many have forgotten what respect means.

Hang those who disrespect the submarine profession. We don't. Or else we wouldn't be player this game constantly.

Ironic that they act like pansies to the very people that allow them the freedom to act like pansies.

On that note Ill qoute a U.S Navy vet from UBI.

"That's just like when I came home from bombing Afghanistan back in 2001. A hippie from the Honolulu airport in Hawaii came up to me and spat in my face.

All I did was look at him square in his eyes and said "You know what, I'm glad to provide you the freedom so that you could that". Then I walked off."

Don't get too worked up about this. The armed forces are, first and foremost, paid to kill. I think they would agree with me, but I dont know that. If someone doesnt want to "respect" that, fine. What's it to you?

Maybe I just don't get the whole Support Our Troops business. Why support something you may find immoral?

gah, i dont know

There's better ways to protest and express your opinion than vandalism.

No, that's not true... that's like saying that the only purpouse for policemen is to put people in jail. They do it, but that's not their main goal or purpouse... it's just something that they unfourtanetly have to do in order to acomplish their real goals.

I have to agree with this, only the fewest in any military today ever have to kill.

Sure pouring yellow paint over a sign is disrespectful...but nothing more than a childish prank in my eyes. It seems like people would be less angry if they'd killed someone.

Maybe some community service... they could repaint the sign.

Lefties hate angry righties... so its only inflaming the whole thing.

Is it really anti-war or environmental? (that puerto rican island)... because I have nothing against environmental protest.

@ Wilhelm... its not that I have no respect... its just that I have a sense of humour. Sure I respect the base and its people... but its just a sign. If it meant something to me I'd be a little pissed off too... but not that pissed off.

I understand how these so-called hippies think, and they have the best intentions according to their view of the world. Perhaps they are a little misinformed and misguided, but no more than the submarine community of that town who've known nothing but navy all their lives.

This is agreed. Painting something yellow won't change anything.

I am a bit (a bit!) of an Hippie myself but this action was just dumb. Those Wannabes...:nope:

I am anti war but the only thing that sometimes can change anything is war.

I did that.

And what the hell is General Topics?

Thatīs the forum where you can discuss everything that doesnīt belong in the other forums.

You remember when you wrote "As for subsim, yes it is a good fourm but it lacks the political and OT threads that formed the Bonds in UBI."?

"General Topics" is the forum you were looking for! :)

You wanted them to attack and storm Groton base instead of repainting their emblem...? :)

We all live in a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine...

The article reads like something out of The Onion.

State police have begun their investigation into who defaced this symbol of shipbuilding.

"We're gonna find out what kind of paint that is and trace it, 'cause you can do those things these days," Sen Cathy Cooke, R-Mystic, said.

I'd have thought a U.S. Senator would have more pressing issues to spend their time on than a misdemeanor act of vandalism... :ping:

I'm sure there's a peaceful solution for this issue those people have with Groton Naval base...:smug:

There are better places to attack and storm, you know...:know: :rotfl:

Though it make me a bit angry, it's nothing compared to the small anti-war group that goes to dead soldier's funerals and protests with signs saying "baby killers" and such.

Though it doesn't get much play in the media, it has happened in my state from an organized mob of hippies.

It's to the point, now, that countergroups have to be formed to keep grieving families from hate-filled mobs at their own relative's funerals. :stare:

I wouldn't call the Westboro Baptist Church an "organized mob of hippies." An organized mob of hippies would probably beat Fred Phelps to death with jelly shoes.

I think "revolting mob of sociopathic hatemongers" would be more appropriate for them.
