I wasn't sure if this was serious or not.

Blunkett 'gave machine-gun order'

David Blunkett told the head of the Prison Service to call in the Army and "machine-gun" rioting inmates to regain control of a jail in 2002, reports say.

Martin Narey, then director general, said the then home secretary told him he did not care about possible deaths during bids to retake Lincoln prison.

.....

He said that, during a telephone conversation in October 2002, he told Mr Blunkett he would not rush into ordering staff back into jail if it put lives at risk.

He told The Times: "[Mr Blunkett] shrieked at me that he didn't care about lives, told me to call in the Army and 'machine-gun' the prisoners and - still shrieking - again ordered me to take the prison back immediately.

This is just plain funny. :D

I think tear gas would of been just fine.

I've got no problem with the application of deadly force to control prison riots if the lives of the guards or other prison staff are in jeopardy. ******* 'em.

Now, here's a thought...if you're a prisoner, and you don't want to get mowed down by a machine gun....DON'T FRIGGIN' RIOT.

Would possibly have saved the British tax payers a lot of money (http://www.jihadwatch.org/dhimmiwatch/archives/013618.php). :yep:

Well we do have a prison overcrowding problem (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-2395808,00.html)to which John Reid is looking for alternative solutions. ;) But I doubt even the hard man of the Labour party will consider this extreme option. ;)

What is there to RIOT about? They get caught doing something they shouldn't be, get a roof over their heads, 3 square meals a day & (correct me if I'm wrong) actually get paid (read wage) for any work they do while inside?:nope:

There are a lot of law abiding people in the UK who don't even come close to this level of care.

They waved their rights as soon as they commited a crime.

That said, Live ammo might be a bit severe, maybe rubber rounds?

Hehe the Labour governement 'comedy of errors'
shrieked at me that he didn't care about lives perhaps he (blunkett) couldn't see the wood for the trees ...boom-tish!

Lol, Bremner Bird & Fortune were alwyas taking the piss out of Blunkett by depicting him as some kind of action hardnut type. Most amusing.

Simple fact is imo that the prison guards and administration have failed in their duty of care by allowing the riot to happen in the first place. But then again like most everything in this country, the prison service is underfunded and has a short-fall of experienced staff, so why are people supprised when things like this go belly up?

Maybe Gordon Brown could tax my mothers state pension some more to make up the loss in this and countless other areas :/\\chop

It a win win situation. Saves money and reduces overcrowding. At least the prisoners wouldn't re-offend!!:o

It would be an incentive to others there to stay on the straight and narrow and never go to jail. I'm sure you would get the backing of many of the police force, as they wouldn't have to deal with them again.

You forgot to mention being careful when bending over to pick up the soap :o:lol:
That alone is a major problem, and the drug missuse and sharing a cell with the missing link... not exactly breaking large rocks with a small hammer but I wouldn't call it Butlins either.

Perhaps we could downgrade it to 1 or 2 stars and add an appropriate entry in the lonely planet guide?

The alternative is to upgrade to 5 stars and vie for a mention in the Michelin Guide or Zagat's. :p

reckon (just for the sheer fun and irony of it) any offender who repeatedly commits a crime and gets sent to prison should automatically be reclassified as suffering from a anti socail personality disorder and confined in a secure mental unit...where he will find that he will have zero privacy ..zero luxurys..and any and all un welcome behaviuor will be greeted with 5 male nurses man handling him to the floor and tranqualising him untill he submits to the regime..he can be held indefinitely without chance of parole or release until a panel of consultants consider him to be fit for release..which given personaility disorders are viewed as untreatable and un-curable would by default be never...

so there you have it....i dunno about you but i'd find that amusing:know:

there are plenty of unfortunate individuals who have never commited a crime in their lives who are suffering under just such a regime.....

Why did you delete the link to the Monty Python money skit? For that wacky tabletop dance, I was going to recommend that he apply for a government grant (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqhlQfXUk7w&NR).

here's another example of the sort of schizophrenic logic we are constantly confronted with from officail sources...

government says fear of crime is out of proportion to actual crime figures..

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4991526.stm

followed by the latest crime figures which claim succes at dealing with violent crime....read the article but take carefull note of the Archive list on the middle right of the page...lol

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6059520.stm (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6059520.stm)

it's a mind game being played out by the government...which by it's very nature is deliberately ignoring the victims..

by now we have grown used to (and that's a huge clue) reading about ordinary people getting killed for absolutley no reason what so ever allmost at random by these psychotics...

if you cannot predict who is going to be the pscyho and who is not.. then simply walking down the street ..mowing the lawn ..even talking to one becomes a potentaily life or death situation...it makes zero difference if this is statisticaly insignificant or not....
if your life or the life of your family is at risk you would be stupid not to at the very least concerned

this apparantly still confuses government officails..:rotfl:

they are trying to act as if we are being paranoid...

and that in it self is enough to make me afraid...

edit..just read the triffid thread cheers Steed..

and found this...add this sort of thing to the mix of the above scenario

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=411382&in_page_id=1770

and even a single cell organism yet to obtain the power of thought could figure it out...i note the incident took place at night which probably means that the police were too busy preventing drunken brawls in the town centre..which only adds insult to injury..and kinda says it all

you don't have to look far to see the pattern...

i'm thinking that this little army of pscyhopaths should be renamed Blair's Brown shirts..as they appear to perform the same function
