True to form in this world in which the victim mentality reigns supreme, it is now Mr Gibsons turn to cry fowl. It seems in this day and age it is just far too difficult to fully accept responsibility for ones own words and actions. In a recent interview with the American network ABC, Gibson takes part responsibility for his behaviour but at the same time strangely blames his anti-semitic outburst partly on the wave of criticism that he was subjected to in 2004 at the time of the release of his new film "The Passion of the Christ." This part deflection of blame is in addition to the 'I was drunk' defence.

In a much publicized recent interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer, actor/director Mel Gibson became the latest to cry victim as the blanket excuse for his actions. It also seems bad pre-publicity for his 2004 film "The Passion of the Christ." triggered his anti-semitic tirade. "Now even before anyone saw a frame of film, for an entire year, I was subjected to a pretty brutal sort of public beating," he said. "And during the course of that, I think I probably had my rights violated in many different ways as an American, as an artist, as a Christian, just as a human being."



The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has issued a press release accepting that Mel Gibson has taken the "first 'baby steps' on the road to recovery" yet also notes that "there is an element of denial in his comments when he attributes anti-Semitic outbursts to the alcohol."

It doesn't matter if it is's Hollywood stars or disgraced politicians such as Mark Folley, it seems that whatever your ill, all you need to do is spend a week or two in rehab which I'm sure is code for 'luxury 5 star resort', or say the alchohol or pressures of life made me do it.

I can see his point, he probably did get crap about his Passion of Christ film as this would of been an insult to some, but still no excuse to go on a drunken spree nutting off about the Jews. Alcohol! And its legalised in most countries :nope: Oh well back to me Rum:smug:

Mel Gibson is no dumby. As far as I'm concerned, he meant what he said. It's just that it took plenty of alcohol for the truth to slip out. I would say that the only way he has a chance of getting out of this one is to sincerely change his attitude towards jews and explain that to the public in a very convincing way. And he's not done it yet, as far as I'm concerned.

I agree with this. His true feelings came to light as the alcohol impaired his better judgement. This is my pet peeve. Prejudice is the highest form of human ignorance.

People can change beliefs and sometimes do. In this case, I'll never believe a word he says on the subject. Anything that comes out of his mouth from this point forward is nothing but damage control. He'll say anything to save his career and salary.

Mel has been a big drinker even before his early days of his career he once claimed he was pissed as a hen when filming his Mad Max movies - their is no doubt the guy is a alcoholic yet is hiding behind it with his fame and fortune. Hes a aussie, a binge drinker ( sorry aussie mates) we kiwis aren't far behind anyways:D . So all Mel has shown is the typical alcoholic that gets rotten drunk and then goes on a verbal abuse rant about other nationalities or what not. Then wakes up the next day and wishes he fell in a bottemless hole:rotfl:

If he had said im very sorry for what ive done i have a alcohol problem and i was wrong in saying what i said then the guy should be treated like a king but all ive read is the typical alcoholic rant - making alot of excuses. Its common in alcoholics.

Mel is American. He came to Australia when he was young after his father died (his mother is Australian). It's a bit like Russell Crow is a New Zealander, but he says he Australian.

Yep. I love when people say he didn't mean what he said... They'll say, "oooo, it was the alchohol's fault" :rotfl: . Drink loosens the tongue, not predilection and bias. If anything, it enhances the latter. Alcohol alters what you say, not what you think.

I was surprised that Scotland did not declare war on Mel Gibson, may have something to do with he was there number customer for scotch whiskey at the time.

I wouldn't worry too much about Mel...with the bank he made on The Passion, he'll be back. There's already some prominent Jewish producers who said they'd work with him in the future. The lure of the almighty $$ is pretty strong.

The bottom line is that, for a while longer, the U.S. is still a free country. Mel is free to be a drunken bigot, and the rest of us are free to decide whether or not to see his movies. Why this whole episode was news past the first 24 hours of the story is beyond me, personally.
