View Full Version : Visibility during periscope and decks awash

I have finally tweaked my game so that I can happily run at 'decks awash'. However, does this in fact reduce the visibility of my sub? I know dive time would be decreased, but any other benefit? Secondly I remember mention of a mod that corrects a visiblity bug with the periscope (the bug being that the sub is just as visible at periscope as it is surfaced), however I seem to remember the bug is just for a particular sub type.

Hello
Yes your sub is less visible when you're partially under water. Obviously this depends on the weather conditions as well. As far as the mod you're talking about I'm not sure I know anything about it. Sorry about that, hopefully someone else might advise you on the subject. I really hope it makes sence and it helps.

Maybe you're talking about the shnorkel fix? Never heard of a periscope bug before.. :hmm:

How did you tweek your game so that you can run at decks awash?

If using NYGM and probably same thing applies to GW set your depth to 6m to run decks awash. This makes your boat less visible and makes diving few secods quicker (doesn´t sound like a lot but it can save your life) but in the negative side makes the fuel economy worse.

When I started TGW1.1a, I happened to notice that I had U-51 again, but I had already chosen a name for the career. Is there anywhay I can change that name without starting a new career?

Use SH3 Commander and change the uboat number there

1. However, does this in fact reduce the visibility of my sub?
2. I know dive time would be decreased, but any other benefit?
3. Secondly I remember mention of a mod that corrects a visiblity bug with the periscope (the bug being that the sub is just as visible at periscope as it is surfaced), however I seem to remember the bug is just for a particular sub type.
1. It does for visual contact, only. Radar still treats you as being utterly surfaced. For all boats.
2. Not in this game, no. It does give a tremendous boost to crash-dive times.
3. No. The snorkel and periscope are the same as being surfaced. It's not just one sub type that sufferes from this "feature". The bug you might be thinking of is the XXI snorkel's tendency to blow out your sonar.

I don't wish to change the number.

Eek! So you're telling me that when I raise periscope, I am effectively "surfacing" for the duration (at least as far as radar-equipped destroyers and aircraft are concerned)? I take it that if they are trying to spot me without radar, then the lower visibility of the periscope comes into play as it would in RL?
