Let me set the mood.
I am only running the GW mod only. I also use the external camera just to see the ships sink.
Type VII-C U-Boat.
Third patrol with only three ships sunk to show for it.
I spent all my fish on a convoy except two (1-ES and 1-E).
Results - C3, medium tanker, and one large tanker.
Heading home after required patrol time.
Sea conditions are bad with a 13m/s wind with light fog, overcast skies, but no rain.
While heading home, I get a report that a large convoy is heading towards me. I turn and run down the line on a head on collision course. I anticipate making contact around midnight. Shortly after 12:30, lookout spots a ship. I head straight to the conning tower. Stupid weather, my men didnt see the convoy until I was almost in it. I go to periscope depth. The reports come flooding in. Merchants here, merchants there, warship.................what? Warship? Warship approaching fast. CRAP!
Up scope! Hmmmmmmmmm.........C3.......C2........Tanker!..... ..another tanker!........and another and another. Holy sweet Jesus! Ive hit the mother load!!!!!
Wait...........what is this? Oh yes...............a troop transport. The gods have smiled upon me today!
Needless to say, I was spotted a while back so all the ships are zig-zagging and sure enough, the escorts are coming full speed. I spot two Flower corvettes and two more that I could not identfy. I knew I would be cutting this close. The more I wait, the harder it is going to be with more escorts showing up. I lay out my plan. I will stay at 25m with my nose pointing to the perpendicular to the transports course line. I will wait for it to come across my bow and then shoot my last two fish. I set up my shot with the scope. What is this? The ships are changing course! Crap, my shot is ruined and to make things worse, the transport is now heading towards me! The angles are all wrong so I decide not to take the shot. I will sneak away, Steam ahead of the convoy and set up my shot then. I head down deep 120m at least and at silent speed. Since I am not going to make the shot, I decide to be a third person and watch the escorts hunt for me. I pop up above the surface when I punch F12. Sure enough ships are heading everywhere, spotlights are shinning. Escorts are buzzing around the convoy ships like angry little bees. And there sits my prized Transport ship sailing away.
The escorts must have gotten a bead on me because a large DD came steaming up towards the transport ship. Uh-oh, this doesnt look good. Just as the DD passes the transport on port to port and hasnt cleared the stern of the big ship, the DD lets fly with its depth charger projectors. Amazingly one depth charge lands right next to the transport ship. BOOM! Now thats gotta hurt! I fly down towards the stern of the ship and sure enough, a propeller is gone and the rudder is jammed to starboard. The ship slows and the DD makes a hasty retreat away from there. I couldnt believe the DD captain was that stupid. Bad for him, good for me. I will continue with my plan to make a hasty exit and get ahead of the convoy. Now my chances of sinking this behemoth has just gotten better.
This is where I saved the game and exited. I need to do some RL things so the game must wait. Lets see how this turns out tomorrow.
 Good luck, mate! If one of the props are gone, and the rudder jammed, he could be dead in the water.... Ever considered picking him off when the rest of the convoy is gone?

Don't you just love it when fate gives you a good hand!:yep: You may want to take out another target if you have a chance before finishing off the transport. If he's dead in the water, then you've got time.:arrgh!:
You started a convoy attack with only two fish?!:nope:
Well maybe you'll only need one fish for the troop ship and if you can get a tanker or something that will sink with one torpedo then you have done well.

Im heading 90° from the convoys course. I plan on staying deep for another hour. The contacts are fading so I decide to go to periscope depth. A quick sweep proves to me what I already know. The convoy is gone as well as the escorts. I surface and run ahead full until I am 10k from the convoys course line. A turn to port and I race ahead and try to get ahead of the convoy. The weather is still bad so I must estimate where the convoy is so when I make my turn back, I will be ahead of them. Two hours later, I turn back perpendicular to the course line. When I get to where the convoy should pass, I turn once more back towards the convoy. But this time, I will proceed slowly and take a sounding to see if I can hear them coming. Just when I think the convoy changed course, I submerge to 40m to listen. My sonar man hears them coming ahead. Long range. I have enough time to surface and get even closer. I run only thirty more minutes on the surface and then dive. They are ahead.......real close. The hydrophone shows merchants appearing all across the front of my sub. I go to periscope depth and raise the scope to sweep the seas ahead. Too dark. They are not close enough...............wait. Smoke ahead. More smoke trails appear. Now I just need to find the double smoke trails that mark that transport ship. THERE! I advance slowly. I dont want to spook them too soon. I range the transport ship. 4k ahead with a 19° starboard. Hmmmmmmmmmm.........this might work out. The convoy steams forward, I go to silent speed. I dont want to warn them. One quick look through the scope and I see that I am going to be one lane over from the transport. Good, I will turn to starboard and set up for a 90° shot in the ships starboard side. All engines stop. I drift and wait. I then realized that I just cranked up the game so I go check the TDC settings. Set both fish for pistol and no magnatic. The seas are still too rough to chance a magnatic pistol shot. I check the scope briefly. I am going to be in a perfect place to take my shot. Maybe a little to close to the ships but I will see if I clear. Another quick sweep shows that no one has spotted me. I also notice that there are two larger tankers that will pass me just in front. Damn! I wished I had more eels. Down scope. Dont want to blow it now. Wait......wait.......wait.......up scope. Holy cow! Stupid tanker passes not less than 100m right in front of me! Now that was close! I check for the transport. There she is. Uh-oh. It seems that depth charge did some damage. The rear deck is awash. She is still moving but slower than the rest. She has dropped out of formation and now is in the open gap between the ships next to her. This couldnt have been better. I check for the next ship so I can see how much time I have to set up my shot. Another large tanker. Hmmmmmm.........another great catch if I only had more fish. I set up my shot. 800m away. doors opened. Wait for it. Wait for it. FIRE ONE! FIRE TWO! TDC Tube Lights flash red and then white. I am now empty. I cannot dive right now because I dont know how close the next tanker is. I just set the depth to 130m and wait until I get 20m deep before I order silent speed ahead.
Since there isnt left for me to do, I push F12 so I can see what happens. I am hovering over the transport. The hand on the timer is slowly sweeping towards the red mark. 5...4...3...2...1.......Uh? Wheres the explosio......KA-BOOM! One hit right at the forward smoke stack. Must have been the 7e eel. Now where is that 7es fish at? Stupid sound tracking fish.....good for nothing. I bet that stupid thing is off tracking another ship. KA-BOOM! Explosion at the rear smokestack of the transport. YEA! Two good hits and now lets see if I get my just desserts.
Searchlights spring up. Ships straight zig-zagging again. But this time, it looks like ALL of the escorts are coming to get me. This doesnt look good. Im only at 60m depth but I am heading across the convoys path so maybe I will get lucky. Now where is that transport at? There she is. Hmmmmmm......seems to be slowing down. Its listing as well. It starts to roll onto its starboard side. 45° list now. Rolling rolling rolling. It lies on its side dead in the water. Oh yea! Two fish and a misplaced depth charge has just gotten me a big fat prize. Ships swerve to miss the dying ship. It floats on its side for another thirty minutes. Slowly it starts to sink stern first. Going...going...going....gone.
Now I have to dodge the escort attacks. They will be pissed about this now.
Good stuff!:yep: So did you escape?

Yep, got away by heading down deep. 120-130m is best if you want to get away from the prying ears of those DDs.
I set up my SHIIICommander so that when there is any enemy activity around, I only have real time speed. I cant warp anywhere. Just sit there and watch the action and rotate my crew as they get tired.
It took me about thirty minutes real time before I felt comfortable going shallow.
Right now, Im heading home with no eels. The weather is improving so I may be able to get another lone ship or two with the deck gun if Im lucky.

Good work, Herr Kaleun! I would be proud to be a part of your crew!
