View Full Version : Light aircraft crash in NYC
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6042306.stm
That's gonna dredge up some bad memories for NYC...
I live 12 or 13 blocks away and didn't even know about it 'till I got home from school and my mom told me very nonchalantely. I went right back to browsing the forums. I try not to be insensetive to these kinds of things, but they have no comparison to 9/11.

Apparently a baseball player was flying the aircraft. I wonder if it was suicide or a genuine accident? Because the incident happened at 3pm NYC time approx, hopefully there wasn't any loss of life within the building/apartments. It could have been even worse if it was after hours or early morning. I guess we will know much more over the coming days.

HAHAHA I love this part of the article, "A White House spokesman said they were not ruling out any theory."
This plane was piloted by the NY Yanks pitcher and the Whitehouse is not ruling out any theories makes it sound like they are going to try and pin it on Al Qaeda! :rotfl:

I know! Everything is terrorist this and terrorist that! It's comical!
Reminds me of the Salem, Ma., witch trials! Everyone is running around accusing one another of being a terrorist to gain something they want!
You got Isreal over here on the left pointing and saying, "Hezbulah is a terrorist" and then you have Hezbulah on the right pointing and saying, "Isreal is a terrorist" and then you have Bush over here pointing and saying "The whole world, except for America is a terrorist" and then you have the whole world over there pointing and saying, "Bush your a complete *******ing idiot" :rotfl:
Good one SubSerpent. Salem witch trials indeed. Thing is, I heard the weather was foggy. Created by a fog machine set up by AQ or the CIA or Illuminati, your choice. Perhaps the CIA secretly controlled by gay islamic Moromonic (Moronic?) catholic agonostical masons.

For the first 30 minutes or so after the crash, no one really knew what was happening...so of course "any theory" couldn't be ruled out, including terrorism. ALL of the major news outlets...CNN, FOX, MSNBC, dropped all of their other programming to run with this story. Planes hitting buildings in NYC are going to get the media in a frenzy, at this point in time.
Within an hour, info started coming out about who the plane was registered to, etc, so it was pretty apparent that it was just an accident. I watched some of the coverage, and there was a great deal of confusion between the networks as to how many were killed, and that was several hours after the event. NPR's coverage, for example, seemed to lag well behind the TV stuff, in terms of details. For whatever reason (I'm sure the fire had something to do with it :D), the info flow seemed a little slow.
So...to disparage anyone for saying they can't rule terrorism out, moments after the event and well before any details of the event are known, seems to me to be a little on the petty side. I don't know when, in the overall time line, the WH made those remarks, but I'll assume it was earlier rather than later. Now, if it was 9:00 this morning, then .

Of course it's petty. Some people never miss an opportunity, no matter how much of a stretch it might be, to badmouth Bush and the administration.

People are in such a rush to post a comment on this forum about what happened when no one knew exactly what was going on except it was a 4 alarm fire, news outlets were showing a building with two floors on fire and interviewing eye witnesses that stated there were people running all over the place screaming, NORAD placed planes in the air as a precaution...blah, blah, blah.
As a few others had stated earlier, it was in the countries best interest for the White House to "not rule out anything". I mean come on...they didn't even have time to figure out what kind of plane hit the building...even eye witnesses differed on if it was a single engine or twin engine plane.
Once the information became clear, the baseball community is in mourning and all people can do on this forum is bash Bush???? :nope:
On that note, it seems that the Baseball owners are looking into a contract clause that doesn't allow players to be private pilots.

I think that that's a slight over-reaction on the part of the ownership. This is the first aviation accident involving a baseball player since 1979. That's about 27 years, a pretty infrequent occurrance.

At the time of the article, we didn't know what exactly was going on. Actually it's still under investigation. So by saying they didn't rule anything out is exactly what they should have said. So anything including terrorism was not ruled out which was the correct decision to make.

That happened with the Sumo Association. I forgot his name, but a wrestler died in a car crash while driving his own car and the Association decided to forbid all wrestlers from driving themselves. Now, some of the fat bastards shouldn't drive indeed because they barely fit on the seat but what happens if another wrestler dies in a car crash with one of his assistants as drivers? Decide that wrestlers can only walk around?
That's why it's an accident, because it was unforseeable. That's why it's a tragedy, because the situation imposed a super-human challenge that the human hero is uncapable of overcoming for not being super-human.

Well, I suppose you could justify the first part of the coverage, especially before it was clear this was a plain old accident...but I saw Greta van Susteren continuing to milk this at around 10:00pm last night. That was certainly way more than this story warranted.

I know, its just another plane crash.
just one word about all the over-reporting:
LOCATION!!
thats the only reason why. The Brazil Gol crash didn't even get this much attention. Very sad indeed........:nope:

Bump.
I thought the flight enthusiasts here might be interested in this accident analysis report video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YqUJ0YE8cI&NR) of the crash.
