View Full Version : What to think of this?
I just received a weird radiosignal:
19:45 Radio Message
From: Open Freq.
To: U-52
1939/09/03
SSS_ SSS_ SSS_ 56.44N, 14.05W

That's the passenger liner that was first struck in the war right?
Any chance to get up there and save some survivors? :)

Yep. You've just witnessed good ol' Kaleun Lemp's work. Unfortunately, all the radio traffic that GW adds is just eye candy. All the reported sinkings and convoys aren't really there. How awesome would that be if they were though, eh?

I like how they give you information that a real kaluen would know but you have no clue what it even is. Like prize law.
Ah too bad I was looking forward to a visit...
And shame that the reports on convoys aren't true neither...
So you don't get to see a wolfpack in action then? :(

Correct. And there's SH3's most glaring weakness: No wolfpacks. To me, a U-boat game without wolfpacks is just as bad as if they had left out torpedos, or periscopes.
Ah well, what are ya gonna do, eh?

Thanks to Sergbuto's wonderful mod, NYGM 2.2 includes wolfpacks! :) Got to be part of one myself once. Thought some sneaky destroyer was closing on me, but it turned out to be another u-boot!

I hope GWX will include Wolfpacks...
cant wait for it.
but indeed the messages are really nice in GW. it gives a feeling ur not alone. but I really hope that GWX will have some Wolfpacks and maybe the chance that you meet in the middle of nowhere an friendly sub on patrol

BTW. The SSS in that message is the naval equivelent of SOS.

More accurately, it meant "submarine spotted"

Wish they were real - I had a radio report that the Empress of Britain (42000 tons - :o) was damaged right on my position - now that would have been a nice kill!

Well,Well..Thanks to you guys i now know why i got a radio message saying a convoy was in the next grid square to me and although i spent a whole day looking for it i never found it, is this just something in GWs or is it based on crap inteligence for that period of time?

Basically, think of it this way. Another German sub or freighter or perhaps a scout plane spotted the convoy and radioed in its coordinates. But, now, how long has it been between the time the convoy was spotted and the time that the message was radioed to the Wolves? If you head directly toward the contact point, you're headed to where the convoy USED TO BE. They're still moving, so they've traveled further since then. Plot an intercept course, like leading a target when you go skeet shooting. If you aim at the target, your shot will pass harmlessly behind it. You have to reach the spot where the convoy WILL BE in order to give it grief.
