Local councils are today thinking about introducing pay as you throw scheme, it would mean the whole of my area would need wheelie bins, as it stands we can do a 13 mile route in around 6 hours if they did do that and put wheelie bins on our routes we would be finnishing around 9 to 10 hours a day.
But how would they implement it ? how can they charge a block of flats? and it would make our lives alot worse.
So what would you say to pay as you throw?

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
If I knew that anything from this would go on something that would benefit the local community then fair enough, but chances are it's going to go into the pockets of fat cat councillors and never make it down to the people who need it. So no deal.
(Plus, like you say Kap, it's making more work for the people who collect it)
NO, NO, NO.

There are plenty of ways to use pay as you throw. They have something like this in my town were you have to buy stickers, they have two types for the different sizes of trash bags. My brother in the next town over, they have to buy special bags for the trash men to pick up. If you don't pay for it in a fee you will pay for it in taxes anyways..

I think we will just see neighbours dumping trash in each others bins. I think the old tax system is better. This way all pays, and if you use someone else's bin doesn't matter as he pays the same in tax for it.
We pay council tax -mine is £155 a month and get **** all for it.I think that people should be more responsible for their rubbish but this is just a bad idea.Does anybody know how to jam the sensor?I shall be using a screwdriver or lighter!!
Does anybody know how to jam the sensor?

The bin lift will wiegh the wheelie bin that part has been discussed in my council not only that it supposed to stop the bending of the rules so to say.
However in order to do this we will need:
37 brand new lorrys all fitted with a bin lift each lorry will set you back £78,000
3 new glass lorrys each costing £56,000
The fitting of all the wieght sensors and other items £110,000
And who gets to pay it only the humble tax payer!
We buy our lorrys direct from DAF we do it in a chain so we dont replace the fleet all in one year its spread out to save money, we are due to get rid of the 1999 X reg lorrys for the brand new 06 reg ones we buy 3 or 4 at a time. to save money each lorry only lasts around 5 to 8 years due to the harsh terrain it navigats on the refuse tips.
But doing this wheelie bin idea is stupid cause only 12 of our lorrys are acctualy capible of bin work.
If you look at the front rim of your wheely bin there is a spot about a third of the way on the left that has a weight sensor underneath it!I am not kidding. It transmits the weight of your bin as it is emptied! This scheme is already up and running in Devizes.I aim to get my money back by getting my library to request submarine books from out of the local area as it costs them £25+.

All of our refuse work here in basildon is bag work we do not have wheelie bins, infact we are instructed not to empty or move or do anything in anyway to any wheelie bin left for us to collect.
The only time we empty wheelie bins is when we have whats called special route notes.

Linton, remove it but don't damage it and send it back to your local council.
I heard the residents in one of these areas that have this bin bug have beaten their council and all the bin bugs have been recalled, people power wins the day.

Well I hope you got a lot of money to pay for it. ;)

Reason for that is steed is because we are not insured to handle them, we cant even come on your property to collect rubbish if we do see it we have to report it but not go near we cant even open your front gate unless your registerd disabled.
But hey that makes my life easier.
I see this vision Kap, you fill a form out in triplet and send it to your council they fill out more forms in triplet which is followed by rubber stamping them and a minimum of three meetings. The outcome of the meetings they send three council reps out on different days with more forms and so on, what a waste of council payers money.

What you want to do mate is get a realy strong magnet, and gaffer tape it to the bloody sensor then leave the bastard there for a few days, that way you have not "tamperd" with it and its not your fault, The other way would be to wire the thing up to the mains and 240volt its arse:up:
ether way just remember "plusable deniability"

Ohhhhhh. Ok. I couldn't figure out what the deal was until you posted this.
My town uses the bins (something like 200L volume). I can't imagine collection any other way. The couple of times I've been out there on trash day, they do my whole block in about 5 minutes. Three guys per lorry -- a driver and two collectors. Probably 18km per 8 hours.
Did this go to some kind of township referendum? It went to referendum in my town, and I voted to privatize the company. The "city" had been using 20 year old trucks, and they were *always* breaking down. The main collection site had dirt roads and was very poorly maintained.
The private company increased collection fees, bought completely new trucks, and the service quality has increased. The collectors wear "uniforms", and the trucks are kept clean and always look to be in good repair. They even paved critical areas of the collection site, and laid gravel on all other drivable areas.
It is/was worth the money. If I had to haul my own trash, it would be a chore. I appreciate the crews that do the hauling for me, so I don't see what all the fuss is about.
Dude. Update your gear!
Kap, I hope you and your gang of dustmen have got pump action shotguns to blast the rats. :shifty:

How utterly stupid, pay as you throw.......................
I used to get all kinds of tips from my customers for extras, as it was cheaper than going through channels, and easier for the customer. My company had a policy of 5 bags and 5 cans a week, with any overages as extra costs, but the extra costs were too steep, so they would offer me a very nice tip, and I made out pretty darn good that way. Really helped with my Son's college fees.
So the "law" is only going to create more "sidestepping" from the general rules, and only hurts the company that provides the service. But unlimited trash removal is rediculous, as it makes the job a real pain, and I really want to consistantly work 12 to 16 hour days because people have no concideration for a route that can have anywhere from 400 to 1000 pickups (or translates into 20k to 60k of weight thrown by hand 5 to 6 days a week), and you have a 20 to 25 cubic yard capacity. How many trips to the landfill do you want to make at 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours turn around time? Do you want to see your wife and kids?
The easiest way is to make it reasonable to recycle with bins for recyclables, and have the customer use them accordingly, as some morons just throw it all together and you're stuck seperating it. Not my customers. They learned even when they tried to give me crap for leaving their mess for them to sort out.
I'm off my soapbox now. There's a lot more to it. Just limit what gets thrown away, and make recycling mandatory. It's really that simple.

This is one war we are loosing because we are helping the rats to multiple by dropping litter on the streets. :nope:
