Just a small correction, it is Type 212, not U-212, I think I saw number U-31 in the conning tower of the U-boat he boarded. According to wikipedia newest boat of this class is U-34.

it is a TYPE 212. thats not the number of the boat. this is a great video and Im really surprised to see such footage of a new boat. I always admire the Germans to improvise. They cant use nuclear technology for military purposes so what do they do, use hydrogen fuel cells. fantastic stuff.

there are 4 type 212 boats currently in service. U-31 to U-34. I understand that Italy has some of these boats as well, but it may be only 1 or 2 at the present time.

Precisely Italy has 2 type 212A boats in service, the Todaro and the Scire', but I understand they are not exactly the same as the germans' boats. For sure the welding technique used by Italy to build its 2 boats is not the same as what they've used in Kiel. Also I think the material used in italians Type212As is not the same low-mangetic steel used for the germans' ones.

If you use Firefox, click Tools and then click Page Info. Click the Media tab at the top. Choose the address line with Embed as type. You should see U-31_DU.wmv in the address line. Click Save As and save it to a location you can remember.
