Hi all,

I`m trying to sneak into S. Flow at "kleine fahrt" submerged(i e 2 knots) and at
TC 1 I estimate it will take me abt. 16 hrs RT to get to my attack position. I like realism, but I don`t want to spend so much real time in evasive action. Well, actually I`m navigating on the map and the limeys have difficulties locating me, so there was no need for evasive action yet.

Any means to speed up the process?

BTW, my boat is a IIA and I suspect I won`t have electricity and air enough for getting away.
Anyone survived such an attempt in a class IIA boat and how? Or even in a luxurious IID?

Regards, Oldtimer

Find a corner somewhere they don't patrol and come up at night. I think someone sunk the BB there and came up right on the wreakage to hide himself and charge up.

Come back with a VIIB, Type II is good for raiding Scapa in the sense that is small, but only 5 torpeedos and small amount of fuel make things rather more difficult.
I managed to get a type II to Loch Ewe and back once, but only just, had to go at ahead one third all the way there (and back to Kiel again), plus trimming the boat when ever I had batteries to conserve fuel.
Take a VII and you have plenty more ammo and fuel for a more fruitful raid.
On my last visit to Scapa there was an Illustriouse fleet carrier, 2x Auxcruisers, a T2 tanker and troop transport all docked up there - no way to sink all that lot with 5 fish.

Hi all,

and thanks for your advice. Now, I`m an absolute beginner in SH3, but I always liked things small, also in RL(run Fiesta ST, been running Mini Coopers long time and so on).

So I`d like to know if it`s at all possible to go through the war in a class II boat? And will missions take the boats limitations into account at all times?
Or will I get a bigger boat by default when my flotilla upgrades?

I`m not talking abt. efficiency or combat success, just want to know if I can realistically campaign a small boat until wars end.

IMO if you want to get to where the convoy traffic is and have enough firepower to do some damage when you get there..then the VIIB is the very least you should be considering to sail in.
If you want to go to far off places ie: New York etc. then the IXB is worth looking at

reasons to get a type VII (at least)

Far superior range
Faster
deeper
many more torpeedos
Stern tube
deck gun
Tons of upgrades...

The Type II has little to no upgrades, making long trips out in to the atlantic just to expend 5 torpeedos which may miss or be duds :nope: . You will get fed up or worse, killed - soon enough in a Type II if you continue to use it past 1940.
By 1943 you wont a stand a chance in that little duck boat. (its only advangage is that its a smaller target.)
I'd enjoy the benefits offed by a bigger boat in order to get to get the most out of the game, then comeback to the Type II later when you fancy a challenge.
