Hey yall, new hunter and having a blast sinking pratacly everything in sight or reach of my Torpedeos. I'm playing SHIII on my main computer and my Laptop and man does it kill time. Just yesterday I touched basis with the community and downloaded a few mods. One is the Ail Sky Mod, but it doesn't seem to be working. I just keep seeing clear skies everywhere I go except the damn storms. Any pointers or other mods to fix this??

Other than that, just returned in my IIVB from terrorizing the North Sea. Was sent to Patrol AN52, but went else where with all this fuel to burn, but not far. Went in to the Gulf where the that Frith is on the North Sea. (Forgot the name) Sunk 3 Destroyes, one patrol craft, and a bunch of fishing boats, trawlers, and small merchants. Some coming from Norway but are still Neutral. Over all I sunk about 42000 Tons, and smoked 6 planes. Even went head to head with an Armed Trawler on the surface. Kept missing him with my Torpedos, so I blasted him to the four winds.

I am running on a 46% realism, haven't qiut mastered the torpedos just yet. Is there a Distance before the torpedos have to become active? I am enegaging targets sometimes at 200Meters or less and the fishs just bounce off. I do practice splitting the Keels with the Magnetic detonation. I find it easier to sink a ship this way, specially a DD type. I have way to much fun bagging destroyers. Unfortunaly I have to dive and hid from the Corvettes. I nailed one straight on at the bow with a Torp, but the thing kept comming. Ended up having to lay on the bottom, 96 meters down and wait this thing to stop charging me. After a while he kept circling, so everytime he his baffles obstructed his hydrophone, I raised up a couple of meters and went all ahead slow. When he cirlced back, I'd stop and wait for him to move on. Talk about nail bitting. When I first targeted this thing, I thought I was going up against a trawler. My surprise when my Pinghead yelled out "Splashes!"

Hello and welcome to subsim :D :D

The torpedoes need at least 300 meters to arm. Personally I use the 400 meters as my benchmark just to be on the safe side. As far as Destroyers and Corvettes are concerned don’t try to hit them from large distances. They have good hydrophones and they will pick up the sound of your torpedoes. Usually I let them come close (at about 400-500 meters) before lunching an attack. That way even if they realise what is going on they have almost no time to react and avoid being hit.

I don’t know anything about the Sky Mod but I guess it uses some type of randomise events, so it might just be bad luck that you haven’t seen what you were expecting. Someone might be more useful on this department.

Welcome!

Oh, and stick to electric torps when fighting destroyers, they are quick to get out of the way if they see a torpedo wake.

Oh yes, I diffently use Electrics, well at least during the day. If I'm starring down the bow of one I either fire one torpedo or a close spread when they are about 600 meters away and on Magnetic detonation. This is with Steam torpedos and at full throttle. When the DD turns, It sets me up for a great shot either forward or aft of the Magazine.

Cool yall! I tried downloading the Grey Wolves, but the site said that the bandwith was overloaded.

AS for the sky mod, I installed it like the directions say, cut and paste to the Data folder and click yes to accept changes. I also got subcommander on board and I like it so far. What is the NYGM Mod? And is there a way to put custome side emblems on?

(Yes, I like to make people laugh!)

i must say that GW is really really good! they did a wonderful job on the supermod.
about torpedoes - do not fire under 500m and use ony those homing ones (that need a really loud screw to follow - at leat 15 knots - i think) against small corvettes and destroyers. big lumbering battleships can be sunk by 4 torps at a time (fire all) because they're too big to turn outta the way!

happy hunting
i run 49% too and take down many airplanes too
