View Full Version : Can it be done?

I am going to ask if something can be done, I am sure that i will be yelled down and heckled for it. I play SH3 as a game, for fun, I have played it full realisim, and I enjoy it, but i also just love sinking stuff without a care (about 40% realisim) . I had the most awesome patrol, I came across a large convoy, and I had air support. The planes killed all the escorts while i was sinking a couple of the largest ships. I then stood off and killed the rest of the convoy (about 9 ships) with the deck gun. It as great! Then I headed home, and struck a mine (at least i think, i was at 1024 time compression) sailing back to spezia  :dead: !

What I am asking is if there is a way to make the game think that I finished the partol, and keep all my kills?

Hit 'Esc", select "End Patrol" and "Return to base". You must be surfaced and away from contacts.

How close to Spezia were you?

You can just as SkvyWvr says if you are close enough. Say within 50km I think, tho might have to be closer. I don't think it works if you're out in the mid Atlantic but could be wrong.

You could have hit a mine, anther ship, or even a subnet if near your base. Using 1024TC near base or any other time is asking for what happened to your sub. You're missing important info that your computer can't keep up with. If using SHIII Commander set your TC to1 when near other shipping or enenmy planes detected. You'll be fine then and not have the problem again. Just go into SH3 Options in SHIII Commander. I even use TC of 1 when receiving Radio Reports so I don't miss out on plotting a Convoy intercept asap. To be safe make your changes while in base so SHIII doesn't CTD. Same goes for mods too. ;)

Yeah, I know that one, just revising my post I realise that I negleect to say that i died. On my commanders load mission list it has me as dead. Can I persuade the game that that certain partol ended with me getting home safe? Kinda cheating I know, but ive got a bloody long way in the campaign, and its starting to get very interesting. If I was kileld by an enemy I just might grin and bear it, but it was just an unexplained death

Hi, you can go back to your previous 'save' before 'dead' [next one above on the list] so if you saved the game after sinking the ships, you can go back to there or if you didn't do any saving, you will go back to the start of the Patrol [that's why I always 'save' after sinking a ship.. I learnt that one the hard way !] and you have to be within 25 km before you can 'dock at La Spezia'; hope this information helps.

Yes it can be done... allthough I only did it once and it was so long ago that I don't exactly remember how. I do know that you have to open up your My Documents/SH3/data/cfg/Carrers/YourCaptainsName forlder and manualy edit your carrer file. Look for a line that refers to you being dead and change the value to false, also you need to set to zero any reference to your sailors or officers being dead. There's also a line somewhere in there about you having finished your patrol or not, I would suggest setting it to false and then actualy end your patrol back in the game. Obviously, if the "war is over" line reads true, set it back to false... I don't recall at the top of my head what else you need to change, but I do remember that it causes the game to crash if you don't do it correctly, because I had to try it for several times before I got it completely right.

In the end, your just better off saving your game after every important event.

Thanks Dantenoc. Ive managed to make the game thing i still have an intact submarine, but its a ghost ship! No crew at all, which makes getting back to port a wee bit problematic. How can I fix this last thorn in my side?

When your sub sunk all hands were lost, so you have to make sure that all lines in the file that read something like "seamendead=XX" are set to zero... theres a separate line for officers and such.... did you change that also?

I got dead sick of trying to do it manually, so i just opened a crew file from a previus patrol and copy pasted the entire lot over to the one i died in. It worked, minus a bit of XP for the crew involved. Oh well. Already in my next patrol, hehe, Alexandria convoy routes here i come!
