This isn't really a very "bad" problem so much as it's a very "annoying" problem. Every so often--especially when a certain event occurs/sound plays--something heppens to my sound. I don't know what specifically it would be called, but my speakers start giving me a staticky metallic sound and every single sound effect slows down slightly and gets a lower pitch. This I can live with; up to a point. More often than not, this will eventually worsen, so much so that the staticky sound disappears and everything else gets so low and slow it sounds like it came out of an action movie. It only happens on games running off my DVD drive and not on games running off my CD drive. Does anyone know what's going on? I'm absolutely sure it's not the game. It has something to do with my comp. I'm willing to do anything short of wiping it.

Are you running a CD in a DVD reader?

No. It's DVD-in-DVD.

I installed today a PCI sound card and i am experiencing exactly the same problem.

I was using previously an onborad sound card from SoundMax and it had not this problem, but it eats the CPU rsources.

With this PCI sound card i have lot of more FPS, but as you described, some times a "statick" noise occurs, very anoying.

Good if some body can help....

It's really irritating 'cause right in the middle of a patrol I'll get bounced by Liberators or something and then it sounds as if the TC was 1/999999999. It kinda sounds like this: "Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawoooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohl heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerr kaaaaaaaaaaaaleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeun!"

It does it in Oblivion, too, whenever someone pulls out/uses any bow besides Steel.....

Would posting specs help?

Some people have had luck with shutting off acceleration on the sound card. It is worth a try.

Could you fill me in on how to do that? I know how to do it for video, but not for sound.

I get the same thing with Asus onboard 5.1 surround sound, so it's not just soundcards having the problem with SHIII. It has to be the sim's sound. I've found that if the weather is raining heavily with high wind and fog the hummming sound appears. If I press the . key to look at the sub(underwater) it starts, but raising above the surface it quits. Also happens when inside the sub and even changing inside views. At times it'll stop for a few minutes but then starts again. And it drives our dogs nuts if I use the surround sound. LOL

If the weather is clear with calm seas and no wind.... no humming sound at all.

I think so Irish is refering to the hardware aceleration slider.

I have windows in spanish, may be my traslation is not exact...

Go to :

Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices > Volume Tab >

at bottom you have

Speakers Configuration > Advanced Properties > Performance Tab.....

There are two sliders.....

I had similar problems with my onboard 6.1 SoundMax from my ASUS P4C-800 Deluxe motherboard.

Some sounds have troubles, in example the fire of the tankers, game freezes, and the sound is really a noise how fried potatoes. Happens too in naval battles between ships, related to cannon and bullets sounds.

I reduced the quality of some sounds from 44khz down to 22khz.

I am trying now with my old Live 1024 Gamer, game has more FPS now, but i was experiencing somo sound bugs, may be related to the drivers, it is a chalenge to fouund them into the Crative/Sound Blaster web site. I really dont know if i have the correct drivers installed.

Thanks, Redwine (by the way, are you claret or port?).
I was away from my computer for my grand daughters birthday. I was referring to that sound and audio device.

I tried shutting off the sound acceleration.

The good news: the problem is solved! No more "bad action movie" problems or static!

The bad news: Now it hisses at me.

The more good news: That I can live with.

Thanks everyone!!:rock::rock::rock::rock::rock:

Any clarete... i like strong red wines. :know:

My preferences are Pinot Noire (Burgundy) and Malbec. I like too much anothers as Barbera, a strong one, or Cabernet Sauvignon.

Malbec is a french variety, and in france it is not so good to be a varietal, then frenchs use it for blends.... but, here in my country, this avriety found a good place and feel good with the highlands, and become a very good flavor variety for varietal wines (stand alone variety wine)

Try a Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina, an unexpensive one is from Vineyard Trapiche, or a Barbera from Norton Vineyard.

I was actually using ES4 Oblivion to test if it worked since it was giving me the same problem and it was easier to replicate. That hissed at me. SH3 doesn't; watching that Bogue explode with the sound actually turned ON was a big difference! I wonder if I'll be able to keep my mind on schoolwork now that SH3 is even better for me...:hmm:

I had alot of sound problems with onboard, then I got a Audigy X-Fi Music that was on sale for $100. Fixed all of my 3d sound problems with Oblivion. I did have a few problems at first, but it was because I needed to go into my bios and set my onboard sound from depends to completely off. So if you have added a sound card, make sure that onboard sound has diffenatly been turned off.

16, finally:up: Get my license in January; beware!:arrgh!:
Junior year sucks...I'm trying my damnedest to get the Commonwealth Diploma (KY only thing; gotta do some college [AP] courses to get it) and am currently taking 3 AP courses, and 2 of them are really driving me nuts; Physics and Language&Composition (the third is US History), especially LangComp. It's all about analyzing the meanings behind essays and stories......and I'm TERRIBLE at it!!!
Add to it that I'm doing even worse in Physics...failing...:shifty: :dead: :damn:
The good news is that it's early in the year, so I have plenty of time to make it up. The only clincher is that to get the Commonwealth Diploma, I have to take an AP language course, and my school is just now getting an AP Japanese program...which has been on hold for two years. I was signed up to take it this year, but they didn't get it, so I'm "technically" in Advanced Japanese 4, even though it should be 3, but I'm not arguing:smug: Hopefully it'll be there for my senior year.:know:

Almot in my installation, i found the problem was into the SB Live! DirectMusic Synthesizer.

I made the tests on Direct X panel, and it is wich make sound bugs.

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/326/dxdiagxr9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

I move the hardware accelleration two steps back... and the quality one all back.

http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/5834/slidersbv7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Then i go to my Audio settings and change the Synthesizer

from SB Live! Synth A (DF80) wich was using by default...

to SB Live! Sw Synth (DF80)

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/9788/audiowi0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

The good is it seems to solve the problem....

The bad is SwSynth means Softwatre Synthesizer...... is is acellerated by software, so it uses the CPU :damn: :damn:

Some times i hate this sim....

As far as I know, unless they release a new one every other week.
Did you see that movie? I thought is was kinda ridiculous.....tired of airplane (near-)disaster movies. I guess I've been flight simming for too long:hmm:
