My favorite photo would probably be anything with a Typhoon SSBN in it seeing as that is my favorite sub.

This is an awesome shot.

- first German 'U-Boot', build in 1850 by HDW of course

- oldest known submersible still around

- sunk on testdrive 1851, but crew could get out alive after 6 hours. (Which makes for first successful escape out of a sunken sub in recorded history)

I have seen Kaps photo album before, but he had to pull it from the public eye because some of the pics on there weren't supposed to be on public display ;) Oh...and on a totally unrelated subject, there was a man on the grassy knowl, he was blonde, six foot two...

I have seen this clip before but have always found it hard to copy it to my hard drive.Any ideas?Lesrae how can you tell that it is particular submarine or are you in it?

lesrae
09-21-06, 05:02 PM
She has a unique control room layout, completely unlike any other T boat. If you want proof, look at the ship's crest on the black cover that's midships, just to the right of where the video starts. It's fuzzy but you can just about make out her crest which is a horn, like the horn of plenty.

Linton
09-21-06, 05:07 PM
I have spotted the crest. It is used as a screensaver and on a piece of black material. Why did they change the control room layout? How similiar is it to an s-boat in layout?I am surprised as to this unusual layout as she was not first of class.
The green seat covers are very lurid!

lesrae

I understand she's a testbed for the Astutes, some evidence:

Proud possessor of what is probably the world’s most advanced sonar system, the Sonar 2076, HMS Torbay is now equipped with the same combat capabilities as those expected to be included in the Navy’s new Astute-class submarines. http://www.navynews.co.uk/ships/torbay.asp

Sonar 2076, to be fitted under both the Swiftsure and Trafalgar Class Update and the Astute programmes, has already been proven on TORBAY through extensive testing at AUTEC during November 2002. http://www.baesystems.com/programmes/sea/astute/news/news5.htm

An S Boat has it's wardroom and officer's accommodation fwd of the control room, so their layout is significantly different to the T boats.
