Apparently a number of mutilated stingrays have been found off the beaches of Queensland, Australia. Pathetic and sad.

Yeah, I read this earlier today. There is an idiot born every second.

Good idea. Imagine if they were simple irrational animals who don't even know what Steve Irwin was and are uncapable of any communication what-so-ever to understand when a predator is a predator and when he is just an observer. Let's go further, imagine if they weren't capable of judging right from wrong and just proceeded to kill all humans they could find indiscriminately.

Oops, I think I am inverting things here. These people need to be expelled from the Human Race.

You know, a stingray killed Steve, sure it’s a big loss, but here we have a mental case going crazy and kills dozens of stingrays for it. Yet he never went crazy when dozens of Australians died after the Bali bombing?

If you ask me he is a chicken sh*t.

Steve wouldn't be pleased with whoever is doing it! I say when they find him they need to feed him to the sharks!

I agree. Goes totally counter to Steve's conservation philosophy. I'm also worried it could be some mentally stunted souvenir hunters who have decided having one of these infamous stringray barbs would be wicked-cool.

Personnally, I think it's a conspiracy.
And now the Stingrays are the scapegoats. Just like Oswald I'm tellin' ya!

Could it simply be a case of someone wanting to own an array of exotic sharp cool looking barbed stingray tails, rather than an irrational case of revenge?

That's my guess. Some kid is collecting them.

It's now become a regular cycle of violence (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060912/od_nm/fish_dc), I tell ya!

The ocean and her creatures can be a harsh mistress arr!

However, the man DID spear this fish. The fish won that around.

I always liked the South Park take on Steve Irwin:
"aaaw, look at this little beauty! I'll just have to be careful and sneak up on him... Gotcha! Whoa steady on there little fella, now if I just grab him like this... now I'm gonna stick my thumb up his butt....":huh:
lol perhaps we could contrive some similar public indignity to whomever is being a dork with this case hehe.

Having just read this and being Australian even I have to say that whoever is the idiot doing it needs to be strung up by his/her or their feet and stay that way for a while.:nope:

Doesnt show much appreciation for Steve's conservation work at all

Some messed up people in this world to kill the rays like that. Hopefully they learned that it won't make them feel any better and will probably make them feel worse. Anyway....

You know Steve was asking for this one. I can see him now - he was swimming right above the ray in the danger zone, describing how gentle and docile the creature is, and at any moment, he could take him out with his barb. Creature got freaked out at this moment, and Steve showing off that he is so near that barb, took it from the animals reflexes. The animal has no control over that barb - its strictly a reflex defense which is uses to 'keep alive' in an ocean where everything wants to eat you.

Anyway, Steve probably had this one coming. Just my 2 cents (again).

Hopefully that reflex will work on some of these dolts. :nope:

If a bear attacks a human, then the idea is you've got to kill the bear such that other bears maintain their "fear" of humans. In the case of stingrays, I doubt they are intelligent enough to warrant this kind of selectiveness.

Yep. The people killing these stingrays are just idiots. Have them spayed/neutered so that WE don't end up with an idiot problem.
