And here's how to get the police out, we rec'd a rare phone call from a call centre the young lady who I will not name who is a bit of a joker took the call and said "sorry no one here apart from me and I am busy burgling the place." Within the hour two police officers turn up asking questions about the burglar anyway after some explaining they saw the funny side of it.

Good Job the boss was out for the day. ;)

My favorite Python...the Bodysnatchers episode where aliens turn ordinary Englishmen into stiffarm-saluting, bearded Scotsmen

Cut to as many bearded Scotsmen as possible, hurtling through wood in fast motion. Follow them, ending up with skyline shot as per 'Seventh Seal'. They all still have the arm outstretched in front of them and as always they are accompanied by bagpipe music. Shot of border with large notice: 'Scotland Welcomes You'.

American Voiceover: Soon Scotland was full of Scotsmen. The over-crowding was pitiful.
They all dash across harder and then stop abruptly once they're over. They stand around looking lost.
American Voiceover: Three men to a caber.
Cut to three Scotsmen tossing one caber. Cut to Scots wife in bed with bearded husband. Pull back to reveal five other Scotsmen in the bed. Short but brilliant piece of animation from T. Gilliam to show England emptying of people and Scotland filling up, ending with a till sound and a till sign coming up out of England reading: 'Empty'. Track into England. Film of a deserted street. Wind, a dog sniffing, newspaper blowing along street. Close-up sign on shop door 'Gone to lunch Scotland'. Close-up another sign on a shop door.' 'McClosed'. Shop sign: McWoolworths & Co'

About Bump Threads

Bump threads are a little bit clever and a little bit funny, but they also are cheap ways to get inflated post counts. I see a guy with 2,000 posts, I think he has been an active participant in many useful discussions about subs, movies, politics, books, tech support.... not 1,950 "Bump, Bumpity-Bump" posts... so in that light, bump threads are counter-productive.

Our moderator has put the cat in the bag. I'm not going to argue with him, I am going to post about other things. I support our moderator (after all, I don't wanna get banned from this great place). Perhaps after some time, it will be safe for the cat to come out again... after the forum admin figures out how to deduct bump posts from users' post totals.

oy!

I'm glad I grew up in the 1970's on a good comedy diet of Monty Python (repeats) Citizen Smith, The Goodies and Porridge, Open all hours. This was the time of great British classic comedy the last great one's were Black Adder and The Young One's. Today's comedy is not a patch on these great shows.

Oberon

I hear ya Steed, I just caught the tail end of the glory years growing up in the late eighties, with Alas Smith and Jones, The Two Ronnies, The Young Ones ("Heavy!"), Fawlty Towers, Citizen Smith, Till Death us do part (and In sickness and in health of course! ;) ).
Yeah...todays comedy isn't a patch on the oldies

I'd add in Father Ted and The League of Gentlemen (First Series) But Rising Damp, Dad's Army and Steptoe and Son still replay well.

Morecambe and Wise, great at the time, seem strangely dated now - probably because Ant and Dec have worked the genre to death.

Steed: ''Hancock's Half Hour, the blood donor had to be a real classic episode.''
:rotfl:The very best !!

'Hancocks Half Hour' ran for 6 television series. and was the highest rated of its time. It graced the airwaves for over a decade and was nominated for a BAFTA. The radio programme was famous for clearing the streets of Britain, while his show was on, as everyone stayed in to listen to it.

'The Blood Donor.'

Anthony Aloysius St John Hancock of 23 Railway Cuttings, East Cheam dutifully turns up -
''But does the hospital really need quite so much of it?''

Hancock:
'' A pint? Why that's very nearly an armful''
''I'm sorry, I came in here in all good faith to help my country, but I'm not walking round with an empty arm for anybody."

Doctor: "You won't have an empty arm... or an empty anything!"

Tony Hancock believes that the pinprick sample taken from his thumb is the full donation.
The doctor says: ''That's just a smear !''
''It may be just a smear to you, mate, but it's life and death to some poor devil,'' says Hancock.

Two series featuring the talented and very funny comedy actor Chris Barrie:

The Brittas Empire where Chris played Gordon Brittas the manager of the Whitbury New Town Leisure Centre. Devoted and committed but gloriously disaster prone. Fully worked out the mis-management scenarios pioneered by Captain Mainwaring in Dads Army,
leaving The Office with no where to go.

I remember great scenes like the buffet where Colin the cleaner, decked in his yellow marygolds and fresh from toilet cleaning was tasked by Brittas to hand around plates of sandwiches.

Also Chris appeared as the inflexble 'committed' Rimmer in 'Red Dwarf.' Some great script writing in the earlier series.
