i was just wondering if destroyers have a limited number of depth charges because this bugger has dropped about 35 on me so far, ive taken damage but the flooding has been contained. i cant get rid of him.:damn:

The good news: Eventually they run out.

The bad news: Even though they're out of ammunition, they still track you.

im getting hammered here so ive decided to bottom the boat at 120m and sit tight and hope he cant find me on Asdic..my problem is that ive taken no some water so i need to do 4 knots just to change depth, therefore when he pings me he can hear me easier. im hoping to sit on the bottom and he cant hear me.

right the good news is he just keeps moving over me now. no depth charges are coming. now im in no better position lol. i might slowly come to about 30 m and when he goes over blow ballast and see if i can escape.

Do you have any torpedoes left?

I would slowly go to periscope-depth, and blow him to pieces.

yeh ive got some left. im thinking about doing that because i cant stay down here forever as much as the tommy wants me to. if i bottom the boat out again surely if he decides he cant hear me he might move on? has anyone experienced this?

Hi Dan, here's a trick you could try...

Go to PD, and have at least 400m between you and the DD (more is better of course). Have a magnetic eel in the aft tube(s), set for this particular DD. Start running at flank away from the DD. He will follow you and use some gunnery. When he's straight behind you, and more than 300m away, fire your fish! Don't make any manoeuvres before the torpedo has a chance to impact - if you turn, the DD will turn as well possibly foiling the shot.

If the shot misses, crash dive and turn hard. Eventually go to 1 knots and silent running - back to the evading game again.

This is risky, but the stern "down the throat shot" has worked for me a few times.

Kind regards and good luck,

Eichenlaub

He's about halfway through the DC's, try to go as deep as you can, and head for deeper waters, and get down as far as you can, as quitly as possible. If you use the depth mod, and can get down around 200m, you can lose the DD that's tormenting you. Put some distance between you and him, and then meter out your revenge if you wish.:arrgh!:

I don't worry about the latter myself, just losing them is enough for me, and even if you fire an acoustic torp at them, they can still out mauever it, and come at you again as the crew are already alert to your presence.

Get the luger out of the safe and shoot Bernard. Then put him in a tube, and send him to the surface. When the DD's see him, they think that the time you spent with him is enough punishment, and they let you go....

Get deep 1st of all if you can. Then enable silent run and set your speed to 1 knot. Do this by switching to the knot meter instead of the engine telegraph. Even though the escort is out of charges he will continue to make attack runs on you. The game doesnt seem to recognize when their magazines are empty.

Eventually, you should be able to break contact and he'll go away. I wouldnt reccomend surfacing and trying to make a run for it. Most likely he'll ram you when you breach the surface before you get to speed or he will just blow the hell out of you. Those gunners are VERY accurate.

I was allways wondering- does the game simulate DD's sonar properly because as far as I know (I think it was wikipedia) when destroyers used deph charges their sonar got fubared for a while because of DC's noise. This was also one of the reasons they developed the hedgehog. In-game it seems to me that DD's can hear you cristal clear no matter how many DC's they throw. If this is true it seems like a big thing to leave out of a game because it would dramaticly change evasion tactics (just go 150m, wait for the charges, evade them and safely leave the DD in the dark)
