Back in the seventies my dad went on business trip to Chicago. Off course he visited U-505, he told me Peter Zschech's story, one of U-505's commanders.

Read it yourself, somehow it grabbed me years ago. It still fascinates me!

" Steel Boats, Iron Hearts " is a good read. I got it off Amazon.

Before he died Hans Goebler was known to give informal tours of U-505 in Chicago.

Ive read the book U-505 by Daniel V Gallery. Very good story.

Other good ones:
Run Silent Run Deep by Commander Edward L. Beach, USN.
Submarine by Edward L Beach.
The Golden Horse Shoe by Terrence Robertson - the story of Otto Kretschmer.
Unbroken by Alastair Mars -british sub commanded by Alastair Mars
Few Survived by Edwyn Grey - about submarine accidents 1774 (Yes, John Day's submarine "Maria") to 1985.

And one ive just finished reading
"Hostile Waters" by Peter Huchthausen - the story of RUS K219 YANKEE-1 Class SSBN.
