View Full Version : HELP I always have too many sailors

ok I did a search on this problem and nothing seems to come up--so has anyone else run into this?

I just made a dual install (had Gw1.1a installed and reinstalled a clean 1.4 vanilla and modded to NYGM via JCGME). then I installed a second copy of sh3cmdr 2.6 and used the shortcuts and the /l: switch to point to the two different sh3.exe's 1 for NYGM and other for GW... since doing this:

I cannot play single missions (it always says I have too many sailors and need to go to the barracks??) and whenever I start a career or try to continue, I go to the barracks and there are 30/25 sailors, and the crew bar (graphically representing the capacity of sailors the sub can hold) extends past the green part and turns black and goes so far into the actual numbers...This happens both in NYGM and GW installs and I am pretty sure it happened once without using SH3 Commander which I rolled back before playing. I have to confess one time I did forget to switch the My documents folder out and rolled back the wrong SH3 Commander, so maybe this is the cause, but I cannot make it go away and have been trouble shooting for a couple of hours now.....anyone else have this happen??

p.s. I tried messing with crew options on a fresh carreer--no realistic crew, then tried without randomization, all possibilitis, but it didn't help.

Can you dismiss any of them in the barracks? I think I've had this before when I was wanting to finish a career with a type 9 but I had so much trouble and sinking nothing that I switched back to the type 7. Now that I'm more experienced in the game I'd take the type 9 over the 7 any day! Just love the longer range and extra torps, not to mention I can fire a spread out the back tubes!

Hi... :up:

Roll back first your SH3 Commander if you are using this program.

Go to basic.cfg and look for each submarine type.

[SUBMARINE0] (type II)
[SUBMARINE1] (type VII)
[SUBMARINE2] (type IX)
[SUBMARINE3] (type XXI)

In example here for all type IX, i you want to increase/decrease Officers or another crew members number..... just edit

[SUBMARINE2]
NrMinOff=3;>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>you can increase/decrease it.
NrMaxOff=7 ;>>>>Increase up to 6 for Type II and XXI or up to 7 for VII and IX.
NrMinPO=10 ;>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>you can increase it too
NrMaxPO=19 ;>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>you can increase/decrease it too
NrMinSeamen=24 ;>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>you can increase it too
NrMaxSeamen=32 ;>>>>>>>>>>>>>>you can increase/decrease it too

ok thank for the suggestions, I have pretty much narrowed it down to my accidental rolling back of SH3cmdr before switching the my documents SH3 folder (one clue is that when I load up Gw, the bottom right corner says NYGM 2.0!). My GW install is now contaminated and the file integrity is down the toilet--did not use JSGME dammit. and I messed with many cfg files, and deleting careers etc..I just reinstalled everything, probably less effort than wading through tons of text and cfg files...--now I have GW1.1a with SH3 cmdr, and NYGM with no cmdr, since I am no good at using two sh3cmdrs. anyone else find it difficult to manage two installs with sh3xcmdr?

I have had this happen, seems to be some sort problem with multiple carreers, where the wrong one is loaded. Just reload the program go to barracks and check crew, dismiss the surplus ones as required.
I run 5 installs on the one Commander without problem but check that you are loading the correct carreer.
Cheers

5 installs!???! Do you use NYGM, because how do you deal with the new files which have to be installed to be compatible? Anyway, i had to reinstall twice because I did the same thing again...hehe punch me now.

Going to the barracks will fix the problem for the career games; but if I try to load a mission, I can't get to the barracks to dismiss the extra sailors.

Each install has a different file name Grey Wolves, IUB, RUB, Grey Wolves Carotio, Standard etc a Commander shortcut is allocated to each one (or a single one allocated to nothing allows you to select the variant you want) Doesnt seem to cause any problems. As for dismissing crew when you cant get to the office this has happened to me, I think I went back to a carreer, off to the office, sacked surplus crew and back to the mission, but the submarine type must be the same, cant explain what is going on here!
