Or were they (quew creepy music)

U-108 off the west coast of Africa was setting up for an attack on an outbound convoy. After releasing two eels the sound of an approaching destroyer accompanied by asdic pings resounds through the Type IX's hull.

Crash dive is ordered, but the boat does not descend quick enough, and the bow of the destroyer crushes the U-boat's conning tower, destroying both scopes, floods break out amongst all compartments...now the boat starts descending. As the destroyer passes over head, it releases a whole bunch of charges, that go off on the mark. The control room lights flash as my CE is thrown about the room (this actually happend, along with a whole lotta tipping of the view of the control room). More leaks break out, the crew is yelling this new to me, but my soundman is silent, both he and the radio operator are dead.

The boat is plummeting through 180 meters when after much blowing of the main ballast tanks, it starts leveling off. The boat is covered with many red areas, but the growing areas of blue are fading away.

Then destroyer screws are heard...No call for depth charges being dropped due to the wrecked sound room. Far off explosions are heard, yet my boat starts taking damage? This was enough to get enough water on board to pull my boat down below its newly acquired crush depth...bring on the oh so anticlimatic death screen.

Now, my boat is dead...I abandon the mission, and go to bed.

When I go to set up a new captain I see that U-108's captain is not recorded as dead in the saved game directory.

The delema.

1)should I just go on as if this boat and crew are in davey jone's locker?

2)take the oportunity to try the attack again?

What do you captains think?

It's your decision really and how you like to play.

Personally I play DiD or Dead is Dead mourn the loss of that boat and start a new carrier.

It puts more "weight" into caring for your crew and will make you a little less cavalier.

Eventually you will be killed again but such is the lot of the Uboat crew

I like to start early in the war and see how far I can get. GW really makes it even tougher because renown is more difficult to come by.... Lots of fun !

What I have decided is to offer the crew up to the maurauding destroyers, and have sh3 properly record the loss of the boat.

I have so many captains running that I need that DEAD sign on my savegames.
