Distant Guns 16-bit issue

Help ,Is there easier a way to fix the 16-bit error you get when you try to install the demo. I have never seen this error message on anything I have ever installed, and I run a lot of games. I went to the microsoft site that gives some info on how to fix it, but I don't want to go through all that, what mode does this game run in ?
