According to Spiegel online today, Materazzi now has made an official-official statement about what he had said to Zidane:
"I had grabbed him by the shirt [read: throughout the whole game, that is what defenders do], Zidane then said: "If you want my shirt so desperately, you can have it after the match", to which I replied: "I rather want to have your sister".
In other words, Materazzi had insulted Zidane's sister.
If this is true, then nothing unusual happened because trash talk like "eh, you wanna by nude pics of your girl friend?", "your game is ugly as your girl" are -like it or not- part of the game called football/soccer.
The inventor of trash talk in Germany btw is said to be the defender "Herbert Finken" who (only) played 10 first league games for Tasmania Berlin in 1965/1966 and who used to salute his opponent players with the following immortal little poem:
"Hallo,
meine Name ist Finken
und gleich wirst du hinken"
("and soon you will be limping").
On Wednesday, Italy will play against France in the qualification round for the upcoming European football championship. Yes, it is that time again.
Both Zidane and Materazzi will have to watch this one, too.

The above pic shows Frank Rijkaard (Netherlands), nickname: " the llama" and Rudi Völler (Germany), nick name: "aunt Käthe", having a reconciliation breakfast in bath robes as part of an publicity stunt several years after the world champion quarter final 1990 which saw both players sent off with red cards after Rijkaard had spit at Völler twice which Völler revenged with a slap in the face on their way to the dressing rooms. Isn't that sweet?
