Quick question here. I love this game, but I am not an all pro like many on here. I have this love for the external cam that I just cannot quit. I like seeing a DD come up my rear and depth charge the livingheck outta me. Maybe it has some personal satisfaction with being an actual navy gunner.... I really dunno. My big question is how to get back the indicator circle that lets you know where underwater your sub is when you use the external cam. I have grey wolfs installed.
This is the only part of the mod that pisses me off.
Cheers

I love the external cam too! I even did what you're doing and added back in the umark.tga to my Grey Wolves install. :)
However, after finding out how much an IX boat costs with renoun, I've turned off my ext cam for that extra 15% renown. :( One more patrol and I can afford it!!
By the way, when you upgrade your boat, do you keep your crew and any upgrades? I didn't notice when I got my trusty U-50 VIIB.

Your crew transfers with you. With the upgrades-i believe you start at the base model for whatever sub you pick--when i upgraded my VIIB to IXC --I had to upgrade the engines and hydrophones of the IXC. (i could be wrong--one of the gurus might know for sure)

Yes, when transfering to a new boat, you keep your crew and their qualifications, but you begin with a basic model boat without upgrades.

Ahh, ok. Is the IXB or IXC a wise upgrade from the VIIB? I've done 10 patrols in my trusty VIIB and feel almost dirty for trying to ditch it for a new boat.

If you're asking is it wise to go from a VII to a IX then it depends on what kind of patrols you like. Quick patrols that are close to home and require a minimum of fuss: stay with the VII. Long patrols that can become boring as you cross the Atlantic, trying conserve every ounce of fuel to stay on station longer and having a larger torp load: go with the IX.
If youre wondering whether to go to an IXB or IXC: go with the IXC slightly better boat IMO.

It depends what your after 'horses for courses' I reckon. type V11 = fewer eels and shorter range but qucker at diving. Me personally...I like to travel to far off places (USA..Carribean) to hunt tankers. If I decide to 'fish' around in the Atlantic I can hang about much longer......HUNTING TANKERS!!! :arrgh!:

Well, I've made it about half way through a patrol in a new IXB, and I'm just not feeling it. :shifty:
The boat just feels too "big" to me, and of course the longer range means more travel time, and the later on in the war I get the more radio signals I get and hitting TC+ every 5 seconds because you just got another radio message is grating my nerves. :)
Think I'll switch back to the VIIB/C after this patrol...

Yes they are like sailing in a bus and handle about as good but the sights of New York and the Caribbean are something to see
New York aii lit up is kinda cool - especially before they enter the war with all those lit ships in the harbour too
Long haul yes and those patrols are not for everyone
Well at least you tried it - throw your radio man overboard next time he slows you for a message :rotfl:
Yes, literally. Toss him out of the radioroom, and you will have no more annoying messages.
Oh, and I agree, nothing beats a Type VII.

Or replace the GW radio messages with the ones from the stock game.

Downloaded that file, placed it in the Misc folder. Still no orange marker during play. Is that file supposed to go into another folder?

Hmmmm odd
The tga should be called UMark and goes into the data/misc folder
Did it ask you if you wanted to replace the one already in there ?
Try this one just in case

Did exactly that and still no orange maker. It's no big deal though I enjoyed knowing where I was when submerged.
I had the same problem with the initial download. I tried the second source and this time it was successful.
Make sure you select this source when you download: Download UMark.tga from Level(3)-network: dl19l3.rapidshare.de
Put it into Data/Misc and it should work. ;) It did for me.

Thanks Kylania. Downloaded your file and over wrote it into the folder. Behold, my orange marker is back. May be a problem with the other file.
