I much agree with Stabiz here. Nobody deserves to get shot no matter how terrible they are at their job. I think he should get impeached though! :hmm: which would be worse than getting shot to some people. My father always thought JFK was a terrible president who's bootlegging rich daddy got him in the whitehouse. He in turn got us involved with Vietnam which turned out to be a disaster. But once he was assasinated he became famous and popular even among the people that didn't like him before. Same thing with Abraham Lincoln. We remember the names of the ones that paid with their lives while serving their country, but not so much with the ones that lived.:hmm: Strange that the world demands so much blood and pain from a family to like them. What a sick world we live in! :nope:

Not also to mention that if that did happen to the US president, the US would go all out ape **** with every country that even looked like a possible terrorist state and end up voting in an even more determined 'war machine' republican president with the possible radical idea in his head - like Rush Limbaugh for instance who I have no doubt that he wouldn't try to send a nuke or two at Iraq, Iran, or North Korea. That's why it's important for this country to go back to a peaceful Democratic society that is more interested in HOMELAND defense, not INVADELAND defense. This way the world would stop being so tense all the time, people would make more money, gas prices would go back down, and our overall economy would grow. The war on terrorism is a winless war. There will always be terrorist even in ones own land. Look at Timothy Mcveigh, or that D.C. city and Virginia sniper guy.

I don't want to start a tit-for-tat, back-and-forth with you. But your premises are incorrect. Peace?!?!? There were 5 terrorist attacks under Bill Clinton, and his response everytime was to sit on his hands. His inaction allowed terrorists to grow and flourish. That's not exactly peace. Remember 9/11? Clinton was gone and we actually got action...from a Republican. Homeland defense? He undercut the military in a way we haven't seen since Jimmy Carter. I was in the Clinton military and understand why many of our unit aircraft and readiness was lower each year that Clinton was in. He made it very difficult to do our jobs with the shortages of funding for operational readiness. Not to mention he sold out to China with dual use space related technologies. Yep, thanks to Clinton, your kids are a nuclear target. Nice.
As far as economic growth, we've exceeded 5.5%. Which is higher than any year under Clinton. And Projected figures are even better. Unemployment figures are lower now than they were with Clinton. Interest rates are currently lower. And Homeownership is more robust now.

The word existed even before Hitler. It means to make a cult around a Führer/leader of the pack. And the American presidency is cult for sure. Sometime I wonder why American presidents don't get their skins painted with gold.
All world leaders have got there heads on the block that's why they get big money. If it happens then so be, they are all expendable, sorry for sounding harsh but it's a fact which they know it. They may be killed but the position is still there for the next man.

Führerkult is apt terminology for what is happenening in the American politics of the Right. Some people will simply cling to Bush, regardless of the failure of his administration's policies. You don't need a dictator or genocide for similarity.

Actually, the hate emanating from the left/socialists/anti-war groups is like a true cult of hatred. Have you heard some of the things these people claim? Hating Bush for them is like to love Christ to a Christian. I went to an anti-war rally in Golden Gate Park (San Fran) to laugh at some of these dolts a few months back, and it was like a religious revival of pure hatred. Never seen anything like it. I'm sure George Bush watches these videos, hears their claims and chuckles.

Of course, the Fürerkult goes both ways. I think Bush got to be way too much of a symbol.
Personally, I don't think he deserves any of it - that is, neither the hate by the left nor the idolization by the right. Both sides made a big symbol that goes beyond what's appropriate to his post - of, IMHO, a bad politician.
But as for a big potential mess 'caused' by something like this - Archduke Franz Ferdinand, anyone? :hmm:

Personally, I don't think Bush should be attacked. He should be impeached, indicted & tried. The notion of the Imperial Presidency flies in the face of the Constitution and Federal Law. I truly believe he has broken the law with his signing statements, his warrantless wiretaps, his Total Information Awareness program and his lies about the war in Iraq. But I also believe in the legal remedies listed previously. That's why his administration is running so scared. The American people are starting to wake up and if the Democrats win control of Congress in the mid-terms, investigations will be conducted, subpeonas will be issued and charges will be filed against Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld et al. I would much rather see these guys brought before the bar of justice and rot in prison before I would see him killed.

None of this would stand up in a court of law. Not one point.
1. Imperial presidency???
2. Signing statements??? Still in debate on whether it is being used in context as a line-item veto, or misused in case. BTW, Clinton, Bush #1, Reagan , etc. have all used signing statements to accompany legislation. I'm not so sure that it has been abused. Maybe, but then again....maybe not. This would hold no water due to precedence. And if I'm not mistaken, I believe the Congress can override the President here. But on that point, I don't know.
3. Wiretaps??? Same situation. BTW, where was your outrage when the Clinton administration wanted to impose the Clipper program which was intended to reach even further than the current administrations plans. Clinton/Gore wanted Fax machines, computers, and data servers tapped. Bush just wants to tap phone calls of people with suspected terrorist connections in calls to foreign sources. He doesn't want to listen to your obscene phone calls to your girlfriend. And at this time, it looks like the wiretaps are OK.
4. Lies about the war? Oh Boy. Again, just because Michael Moore says he lied to take us to war in his comedy called Farenheit 9/11, that doesn't make it so. But you also do know that Clinton said the same stuff about Saddam's weapons programs. John Kerry too. Need a link? Hans Blix is on record outlining Saddam's weapons development also . You indict Bush, you gotta indict the rest of these people. Not to mention German intelligence, Russian intel, British intel, CIA sources, etc. The lies thing holds no water, friend.
This is the same rubbish the DNC said during election 2004, and Bush is still the President. The polls showed Kerry ahead just days before the election and look how it turned out. I'm not saying the Democrats are primed to lose, I'm just saying your overconfidence may also prove fruitless as has happened in the past.

Those are very nice rallying points, but what do they have to do with Führerkult? Führerkult refers to a circle of proponents that will rally around a persona come good or ill. Yes, Hitler had such a following. So did both of the Roosevelts, Lincoln, Taft, Reagan, Clinton, Thatcher, Edward the Longshanks, the Saladin, Constantine, et cetera. It is not an indictment of hate or fascism. The point made and taken is that Bush '43's cult is particularly strong. Anything other implied is spin; nothing more.
What are the chances that the phrase "shoot bush" were automatically flagged whenever put in conjunction... and that this site is now being monitored by national security?
:hmm:
I suspect you will find that the NSA computers are having extra RAM installed this weekend - thanks to the Blogasphere!
The issue comes from both the ardour of the response and what is actually a 'relatively' unique aspect of American political culture. Reverence of the head of state is a concept alien in many european countries. To the European mind, it creates a dangurous situation where leaders can use Patriotism to cloak their undemocratic activities - to distrust those who hold office is to keep asking questions under the most difficult of circumstances and therefore to hold the leader to account.
To this end, a programme such as what is being discussed here is not considered disrespectful - its just using an acted scene to set out the plot for the rest of the programme. The programme is actually about the phychological aftermarth of a second major atrosity on US soil and how the US has changed in the last five years - not about Mr Bush.
The numourous posts (not neccecerly here, but all over the web) about "how would the British feel if the queen was shot in an american film etc etc etc" misses the point. To the British, such an issue is not that important and most people would have no problem with it.
And before anyone asks... I seem to recall an American Film where the Queen and Royal Family die - so they can be replaced by an American?
And wasn't there an American Film where out of all the places the Astroid could hit - it happened to hit the French Presidents palace!?

F-Bush and the high horse he rides on. He may have had tons of people liking him before, but now his polls show he is ranked down there with Nixon. People who wanted the war (against terrorism) now see that Bush is a war monger who is just trying to cash in and set himself, his dependants, their dependants, and their dependants, and their dependants, and on and on and on, with financial security. I feel sorry for people like Sea Demon as he has been blinded with false promises and continues to be lied to by his uberest president. His ignorance of course is his handicap and doesn't allow him to see the truth.
When he sees dead people on TV from overseas in Iraq, he views them in his mind as "not real" or a " better them than me" attitude. The fact is, is that a lot of those people were innocent lives lost due to Bush's ORDER to kill them. Drop bombs on them, launch missiles at them, gun them down in the streets. The family members of those innocents are now the so called 'Insurgents' or 'terrorist' that Bush's war still goes after. Of course once he kills one of them, their family members now feel obligated to avenge the death of their loved one. Thus, Bush's war starts a non stop chain reaction that will contiue on until his thirst for blood has been quinched or until another president comes in and realizes that Iraq was just a big tragedy, just like vietnam, and puts an end to it. The people like Sea Demon will gleefully go about their way acting like they never supported Bush or his war in Iraq (possible entire Middle East). Our childern and their childern and on and on and on will have to continually have to pay more on taxes to help pay off this HUGE debt that Bush and his administration have caused. He more or less is writing checks his ass can't cash, so of course the American tax payer will be paying it off. Another Republican president like Bush would probably try to tax the Iraqi people to help pay off the war also.
Now we break it down for you Sea Demon and other Bush blinded people.
1. Bush starts war against Iraq (he invaded them)
2. Bush's invasion kills off thousands of innocent lives (schools, medical clinics, playgrounds) We seen it in the news from American reporters. Of course the Whitehouse covers it up, with it must have been a faulty or dud ($1 million, $10 million, $100 million, $500 million) "precision guided" missle or bomb! WTF?!?!? What are we spending our money on? Obviously we need to buy our **** from foriegn countries if our own weapons don't work the way they are designed to. :nope:
3. The families of the dead innocents over in Iraq now become hostile towards Americans and Bush - they are now terrorist :nope:
4. This cycle continues on and on as more and more Iraqi families lose another family member to an American troop under the orders of the president of the United States.
5. People in America start to wonder why this war isn't over yet and what have we accomplished. Bush orders top military officers to tell the American people that the war has been a success and that the Iraqi people still want us in their country becomes the bad people might come back. All this is broadcast over live video networks and the people at home in America see Iraqi people in the background behind the military officer holding up signs that simply say, "Go Home America".:hmm: This becomes confusing since we have a military officer stating that they want us there, but then they cleary show that they don't by presenting a sign. After the video goes off the air the military officer probably has some E1 or E2 mow the protestors down with their M-60.
6. This goes on for more years and now the American people are starting to see the "bill or price tag" for this war. It is a crazy figure. The world altogether doesn't have that kind of money. People begin to regret the war and think of it as a waste. Some American's will never be able to forget since their child or parent was killed there in a pointless war. Just a pawn in Bush's little masquerade.
7. Years after the war people talk about the effects of it. Did it accomplish a thing? Was the bill worth the effort? Does the world view us in America any differently - better or worse?
8. Some more years go by. KA-BOOOOM!!! The news comes on in your hometown and you see pictures of New Yorkers running for their lives. Apparently a nuke went off somewhere in the city. No one knows at this time who is responsible or what provoked this. Millions killed in less than 5 minutes.
9. Somewhere on a Caribbean island a man with no beard, not white, not black, just looking plain and normal orders a Strawberry Daiquiri across the table from former president Bush. "We did make some money from all this didn't we Osama" as the two men both watch the horror unfolding in NY on the TV. "Muhahahahahahaha"
