I remember a thread months ago of people posting songs about subs. I would like to see your favorite songs about the sea in general or sailing or ships or subs or whatever. I would also like to see the lyrics of it.
I like the doors so mine will be:
"Land Ho!"
Grandma loved a sailor who sailed the frozen sea.
Grandpa was that whaler and he took me on his knee.
He said son Im going crazy from living on the land
Got to find my shipmates and walk on foreign sand.
This old man was graceful with silver in his smile.
He smoked a briar pipe and he walked for country miles
Singing songs of shady sisters and old town liberty
Songs of love and songs of death, songs that set men free.
Ive got three ships and sixty men
A course for ports unread.
Ill stand at mast, let north winds blow
Till half of us are dead.
Land ho!
If I get my hands on a dollar bill
Gonna buy a bottle and drink my fill.
If I get my hands on a number five
Gonna skin that little girl alive.
If I get my hands on a number two
Come back home and marry you
Marry you, marry you.
Land ho!, land ho!
Well, if I get back home And I feel all right
You know I'm gonna love you tonight
Love tonight Love tonight
Land ho!

I know not of this list Neal has but I was sort of looking for more personal favorites instead of one giant list. :D

I'm Popeye the Sailor Man,
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.
I'm strong to the finich
Cause I eats me spinach.
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.
I'm one tough Gazookus
Which hates all Palookas
Wot ain't on the up and square.
I biffs 'em and buffs 'em
And always out roughs 'em
But none of 'em gets nowhere.
If anyone dares to risk my "Fisk",
It's "Boff" an' it's "Wham" un'erstan'?
So keep "Good Be-hav-or"
That's your one life saver
With Popeye the Sailor Man.
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man,
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.
I'm strong to the finich
Cause I eats me spinach.
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man.
A voice was heard in the market one day
Two lads who gaze out to the sea
Come take the king's shilling and follow your dreams
I'll make you a sailor like me
The first one to speak was the carpenter's lad
Tim Barlow was his darlin' name
He said I'll come with you and follow the flag
Young Daniel cried I'll do the same
The ship left the harbor the very same day
Young Daniel gazed back at the shore
His mother was crying and waving goodbye
She knew she'd see Daniel no more
Chorus:
For sailors will sleep in the deep so they say
And dream of the land and their love
There's no turnin' back once the salt's in their veins
Their spirits fly free like a dove
They met with the fleet and the ships of the line
And straight way set sail for the west
The weather turned dark and the north wind did blow
Young Daniel was put to the test
He was climbin' the riggin' while the wind howled around
And the ship like a toy it was tossed
He fell from the main mast and never was found
To the sea a young soul had been lost
Then Tim lost his sight in the battle that raged
With a tin cup he sits by the door
He hears a voice call in the market some days
Come lads we're away to the war
Chorus

I got cabin fever it's burning in my brain
I've got cabin fever it's driving me insane
We got cabin fever, we're flipping our bandanas
Been stuck at sea so long we have simply gone bananas
Ariba!
Chica chica boom
A chica chica boom boom chic
Chica chica boom
A chica chica boom boom chic
We got cabin fever we've lost what sense we had
We got cabin fever, we're all going mad
*** [does not appear in movie, but is on the soundtrack]
My sanity is hanging by a thread
Since we're going nowhere I've gone out of my head
We were sailing sailing over the bounding main
(Lew Zealand:) And now we're not! Ha ha heh!
***
Grab your partner by the ears
Lash him to the wheel
Do-si-do step on his toe
Listen to him squeal
Allemande left, allemande right
It's time to sail or sink
Swing your partner over the side
Drop him in the drink
We got cabin fever
No if's, and's, or but's
We're disoriented
And demented
And a little nuts
Ach du lieber Volswagen car
(Yodel-lay-ee-hoo)
Saur braten viener schnitzel
Und a vunder bar
(Yodel-lay-ee-hoo)
We were sailing, sailing the wind was on our side
And then it died
I've got cabin fever
I think I've lost my grip
I'd like to get my hands on
Whoever wrote this script
Si!
I was floating 'neath a tropic moon
And dreaming of a blue lagoon
Now I'm crazy as a loon
Cabin fever has ravaged all aboard
This once proud vessel has become a floating psycho ward
We were sailing, sailing headed who knows where
And now though we're all here
We're not all there
Cabin fever!
UPDATE: Bah! More fun to watch it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lw002XBfFWE).

Where can you find pleasure
Search the world for treasure
Learn science technology
Where can you begin to make your dreams all come true
On the land or on the sea
Where can you learn to fly
Play in sports or skin dive
Study oceanography
Sign up for the big band
Or sit in the grandstand
When your team and others meet
In the navy
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
In the navy
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the navy
Come on now, people, make a stand
In the navy, in the navy
Can't you see we need a hand
In the navy
Come on, protect the motherland
In the navy
Come on and join your fellow man
In the navy
Come on people, and make a stand
In the navy, in the navy, in the navy (in the navy)
They want you, they want you
They want you as a new recruit
If you like adventure
Don't you wait to enter
The recruiting office fast
Don't you hesitate
There is no need to wait
They're signing up new seamen fast
Maybe you are too young
To join up today
But don't you worry 'bout a thing
For I'm sure there will be
Always a good navy
Protecting the land and sea
In the navy
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
In the navy
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the navy
Come on now people, make a stand
In the navy, in the navy
Can't you see we need a hand
In the navy
Come on, protect the motherland
In the navy
Come on and join your fellow man
In the navy
Come on people, and make a stand
In the navy, in the navy, in the navy (in the navy)
They want you, they want you
They want you as a new recruit
Who me?
They want you, they want you
They want you as a new recruit
But, but, but I'm afraid of water.
Hey, hey look
Man, I get seasick even watchin' it on TV!
They want you, they want you in the navy
Oh my goodness.
What am I gonna do in a submarine?
They want you, they want you in the navy

Leave her Johnny Leave Her
Oh, I overheard the old man say
Leave her, Johnny, leave her
It's a long, hard pull to your next pay day
And it's time for us to leave her
Chorus:
Leave her, Johnny, leave her
Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her
When the voyage is done and the winds don't blow
It's time for us to leave her
Oh, pull you lubbers or you'll get no pay
Leave her, Johnny, leave her
Oh, pull you lubbers and then belay
And it's time for us to leave her
Oh the skipper was bad, but the mate was worse
Leave her, Johnny, leave her
He'd blow you down with a spit and a curse
And it's time for us to leave her
<repeat first verses>

The Mary Ellen Carter - By Stan Rogers
She went down last October in a pouring driving rain.
The skipper, he'd been drinking and the Mate, he felt no pain.
Too close to Three Mile Rock, and she was dealt her mortal blow,
And the Mary Ellen Carter settled low.
There were five of us aboard her when she finally was awash.
We'd worked like hell to save her, all heedless of the cost.
And the groan she gave as she went down, it caused us to proclaim
That the Mary Ellen Carter would rise again.
Well, the owners wrote her off; not a nickel would they spend.
She gave twenty years of service, boys, then met her sorry end.
But insurance paid the loss to them, they let her rest below.
Then they laughed at us and said we had to go.
But we talked of her all winter, some days around the clock,
For she's worth a quarter million, afloat and at the dock.
And with every jar that hit the bar, we swore we would remain
And make the Mary Ellen Carter rise again.
Rise again, rise again, that her name not be lost
To the knowledge of men.
Those who loved her best and were with her till the end
Will make the Mary Ellen Carter rise again.
All spring, now, we've been with her on a barge lent by a friend.
Three dives a day in hard hat suit and twice I've had the bends.
Thank God it's only sixty feet and the currents here are slow
Or I'd never have the strength to go below.
But we've patched her rents, stopped her vents, dogged hatch and
porthole down.
Put cables to her, 'fore and aft and girded her around.
Tomorrow, noon, we hit the air and then take up the strain.
And watch the Mary Ellen Carter Rise Again.
For we couldn't leave her there, you see, to crumble into scale.
She'd saved our lives so many times, living through the gale
And the laughing, drunken rats who left her to a sorry grave
They won't be laughing in another day. . .
And you, to whom adversity has dealt the final blow
With smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go
Turn to, and put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain
And like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again.
Rise again, rise again - though your heart it be broken
And life about to end
No matter what you've lost, be it a home, a love, a friend.
Like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again.

Donegal Danny
I remember the night that he came in
From the wintery cold and damp
A giant of a man in an oilskin coat
and a bundle that told he was a tramp
He walked to the bar and he called a pint
Then turned and gazed at the fire
On a night like this, to be safe and dry
Is my one and only desire
Chorus:
So here's to those that are dead and gone
The friends that I loved dear
And here's to you then I'll bid you adieu
Sayin' "Donegal Danny's been here, me boys"
Donegal Danny's been here
Then in a voice that was hushed and low
He said "Listen, I'll tell you a tale"
How a man of the sea became a man of the road
And vowed never more to set sail
I fished out of Howth and Killybegs,
Ardglass and Baltimore
But the cruel sea has beaten me
And I'll end my days upon the shore
One fateful night in the wind and the rain
We set sail from Killybegs town
There were five of us from Donegal
And one from County Down
We were fishermen who worked the sea
And never counted the cost
But I never thought 'ere that night was past
That my five friends would all be lost
Then the storm it broke and broke the boat
on the rocks about ten miles from shore
As we fought the tide, we hoped inside
To see our homes once more
Then the ship struck a rock and holed the bow
And all of us knew that she'd go down
So we jumped right into the icy sea
And prayed to God we wouldn't drown
But the ragin' sea was risin' still
As we struck out for the land
And she fought with all her cruelty
To claim them gallant men
By Saint John's point in the early dawn
I dragged myself onto the shore
And I cursed the sea for what she'd done
And vowed to sail her never more
Ever since that night I've been on the road
Travelin' and trying to forget
That terrible night in the wind and rain
I see their faces yet
And sometimes at night when the wind is high
And the rain is tearing at my skin
I hear the cries of drowning men
Floating over on the wind

SPANISH LADIES
(The Yankee Version - Adapted by Roger Chartier)
Chorus:
Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies
Farewell and adieu to you ladies of Spain
For we've received orders to sail to Boston
And perhaps we shall never more see you again.
We'll rant and we'll roar like true Yankee sailors
We'll rant and we'll rave across the salt sea
Till we strike soundings in the harbor of Boston
Nantucket to home is just a few leagues
Chorus
We hove our ship to with the wind at the sou'west boys
We hove our ship to for to take soundings clear
In fifty five fathoms with a fine sandy bottom
We filled main tops'l up channel did steer
Chorus
We'll rant and we'll roar like true Yankee sailors
We'll rant and we'll rave across the salt sea
Till we strike soundings in the harbor of Boston
Great Point to home is just a few leagues
Chorus
The first land we made was a place called Nantucket
Martha's Vinyard, Woods Hole then down Buzzards Bay
We sailed then by Marion, Mattapoisett, and Fairhaven
Then bore straight away for Boston, hooray
Chorus
We'll rant and we'll roar like true Yankee sailors
We'll rant and we'll rave across the salt sea
Till we strike soundings in the harbor of Boston
The Vinyard to home is just a few leagues
Chorus
Now the Captain called out for our grand ship to anchor
We clewed up our tops'ls stuck out tacks and sheets
We stood by our stoppers, we brailed in our spankers
And anchored ahead of the noblest of fleets
Chorus
We'll rant and we'll roar like true Yankee sailors
We'll rant and we'll rave across the salt sea
Till we strike soundings in the harbor of Boston
Woods Hole to home is just a few leagues
Chorus
Let every man here drink up his full bumper,
Let every man here drink up his full bowl
And let us be jolly and drown melancholy
And drink a health to each jovial and true hearted soul
Chorus
We'll rant and we'll roar like true Yankee sailors
We'll rant and we'll rave across the salt sea
Till we strike soundings in the harbor of Boston
West Island to home is just a few leagues.
Chorus

I can't hear this song without thinking of the movie Jaws. "We need a bigger boat!" ;)
Here's the companion song to that one:
(Lyrics by Irving King)
Show me the way to go home,
I'm tired and I wanna go to bed.
I had a little drink about an hour ago,
And it's gone right to my head.
Where-ever I may roam,
O’r land or sea or foam.
You can always hear me singin’ this song,
Show me the way to go home!

Dedicated to those steadfast watchmen who man their posts despite the roughest seas:
Sung to the tune of "My Bonnie lies over the Ocean"
My breakfast lies over the ocean...
My breakfast lies over the ocean
My dinner lies over the sea,
My stomach is in a commotion,
Don't mention my supper to me.
CHORUS
Bring back, bring back,
Oh bring back my bucket to me, to me . . .
I really felt rotten this morning,
They tell me I really looked pale,
My stomach gave adequate warning,
To lean far out over the rail.
The sound of a stomach in motion,
A murmuring noise inside me,
I looked down and there on the water,
Was breakfast and dinner and tea.
